Movie Review: Master of Dark Shadows (2019)

Beginning with a brief history of series creator/producer/director Dan Curtis from his start producing golf programs to his bull in a China shop techniques to getting more and more productions on the air to finally arriving at his desire to create a soap opera…and a Gothic thriller infused one at that…Master of Dark Shadows presents a fascinating character study of a man that brought a veritable arcane avalanche of amazing material to our beloved horror biz (Trilogy of Terror and Burnt Offerings are but a few examples besides the subject of this here diabolical doc)! Woman (In Horror) Crush Wednesday: Barbara Steele

Wednesday is upon us again my Little Monsters and with that our weekly celebration of a wonderful Woman of Horror. This week’s lovely lady just seems to have been born to be part of our beloved horror genre…almost as if she stepped right off the pages of a Gothic horror story. She’s a distinctive beauty whose facial expressions can effortlessly create a semblance of innocence or malevolence. Of course by now you know I am obviously speaking of the legendary Barbara Steele. Barbara hails from England, the birthplace of Gothic horror. More specifically, she was born in the Merseyside town of Birkenhead, just across the river from Liverpool. Barbara began honing her craft while studying at London’s Chelsea College of Arts, before moving on to study at the Sorbonne in Paris, France. She made her small and big screen debuts in the same year with an appearance on the BBC One series, Dial 999 and then with an uncredited part

Woman (In Horror) Crush Wednesday – International Women’s Day

Here we are again, my Little Monsters, on another Woman Crush Wednesday. However, I have not chosen any specific woman of the horror genre to celebrate today. Why haven’t I made a selection for today? I promise you all, it’s not because I have been remiss in my duties as a writer. It’s because I wanted to give you, the readers, a chance to let your voices be heard…so to speak. What could I possibly mean by that? It means that since it’s International Women’s Day, I want to celebrate by finding out who your favorite woman or women in our beloved horror genre happen to be. Who’s you favorite final girl, your favorite scream queen, or you favorite female filmmaker? Elsa Lanchester? Simone Simon? Barbara Steele? Adrienne Barbeau? Marilyn Burns? Katharine Isabelle? Jessica Cameron? Amanda Wyss? I know there are so many to choose from besides the ones I have just mentioned, but I sincerely want to know. Women
