Film festivals around the world have had to make the difficult choice of either canceling or experimenting with digital versions this year because of the COVID-19 pandemic. With several fests finding success and in some cases wider audiences with online formats, the trend is growing stronger. Now five highly regarded U.S. horror and genre film themed festivals are joining together to create NIGHTSTREAM with an online launch planned for October. Following is the official press release. Kurtis David Harder‘s (Incontrol) thriller Sprial is set to make its U.S. premiere at the Brooklyn Horror Film Festival October 22nd following a celebrated World Premiere at London’s FrightFest this past Summer. Ahead of its premiere we have a brand new clip! “Set in the 90s – Malik and Aaron, a same-sex couple struggle to raise their sixteen-year-old daughter Kayla after moving to a small town filled with mysterious secrets. Join them October 11th – 18th in venues across Brooklyn as they screen films from around the globe, along with their brand new HEAD TRIP block spotlighting films that push the boundaries and expectations of the horror genre as part of their most expansive and diverse curation yet. It’s an amazing time to love horror, with the genre being as diverse and challenging as it’s ever been, and our programming this year exemplifies the best of where the genre is currently at as well as the daring new directions in which it’s heading,” says Matt Barone, BHFF’s senior programmer. “Our mission remains to buck the genre’s conventions with forward-thinking films. The Brooklyn Horror Film Festival returns to New York City October 12th -15th, bringing with it more ghouls and ghosts than ever before. BHFF is proud to present more than twice as many feature films as last year and is thrilled to announce the first wave of the line-up, which boasts exciting films, dynamic events and more venues, expanding the festival’s activities. “This year we’ve grown to a four-day festival and are very excited to be extending our reach to audiences beyond North Brooklyn, into Downtown Brooklyn and Crown Heights,” says fest director Justin Timms. “Starting with our opening night at the new Alamo Drafthouse in downtown Brooklyn we’ve also added Nitehawk Cinema, LIU Kumble Theater, Film Noir Cinema & Video Revival this year to go along with our key theaters from last year Wythe Hotel Cinema, Videology Bar & Cinema and Spectacle Theater.” Opening the festival is the North American Premiere of HOUSEWIFE, the newest film from director Can

The Brooklyn Horror Film Festival is preparing to hold its first festival in New York on October 14th through the 16th. The festival will be hosting 2 world premieres, 5 U.S. premieres and and many other films. Opening night of the BHFF will feature the East Coast premiere of Dearest Sister from director Mattie Do. The centerpiece of the festival will be We Are the Flesh from acclaimed filmmakers Alfonzo Cuarón ans Alejandro González Iñárritu and directed by Emiliano Rocha Minter. The festival will host the world premiere of Child Eater from Erlingur Thoroddse. Not only will there be films to watch, there will be art shows, tarot readings, trivia contests, competitions and more to see.
