Blu-ray Review: The Black Cat (1989)

Being an adaptation of horror maestro Edgar Allan Poe’s 1843 short story The Black Cat, this film begins the only way it could; with a baby in the womb super-imposed with images of the cosmos. A visit to a movie set, some hair metal, and a baby having apocalyptic dreams later, and we know well and truly that Luigi Cozzi (Starcrash, Contamination) is following the original story to the absolute letter in such a slavish fashion that would make literary scholars the world over to rise up and shout “Skeet, skeet skeet!” Anyway, there’s also a freaky ass witch, and Caroline Munro involved in these goings-on as well. Not a lot of cats here so far, but I’m sure they’ll chuck one in at some point. (Edit: they do) So what exactly is going on in this picture? The long and the short of it all is; some folks want to make a horror movie about the aforementioned legendary evil

Maniac (1980) – 4K UHD Blu-ray Review

Frank Zito (Joe Spinell) didn’t exactly have the best of childhoods what with growin’ up the son of an abusive prostitute and all…but damn it; a boy’ll love his mommy no matter her faults. You can just imagine how ol’ Frank feels when his mother finally buys the farm courtesy of a car accident…yup, he’s all broken up all right…so much so that he wanders ol’ Manhattan-town and murders rando women (hookers, disco chics, nurses…Tom Savini…wait, what?!!) whom he scalps and places their hairy brain flaps on top of mannequins that he keeps littered around his unreasonably terrifying (and purple) studio apartment. All this horror biz does get put on hold here and there however when Frank meets a gorgeous photographer (Caroline Munro)…a girl that makes him function like an actual human being…but how long will that last? Comprised mainly of a series of hardcore murder-filled vignettes hung on the barest skeleton of a plot (lunatic kills women and keeps

Blu-ray Review: Dracula A.D. 1972 (1972) and The Satanic Rites of Dracula (1973)

Warner Brothers have just unleashed a real terror treat for fang bangers everywhere; a duo of discs starring that demonic Dracula and his vampire hordes courtesy of the haunted Hammer House of Horror! So let’s grab a slice or two of extra garlic pizza and give Dracula A.D. 1972 and The Satanic Rites of Dracula a wicked whirl! Dracula A.D. 1972 begins with Dracula (Christopher Lee) dying at the hands (spokes?) of a wagon wheel in the 1800’s (trust me, it plays out waaay better than it reads). Flash forward to ultra-mod London in the year 1972 where hip scenster cum Occultist Johnny Alucard (Christopher Neame) gets the shit-hot idea to perform a ritual with his chums in a deconsecrated church in the hopes of giving rise to the Devil himself, but he instead conjurs up ol’ Drac-Attack! What Johnny doesn’t know however is that his pal Jessica (Stephanie Beacham) and her grandfather Lorrimer (Peter Cushing) are part of a

An Ancient Horror Is Released In The Trailer For ‘The House Of The Gorgon’

A young woman must save herself and her family when her fiancé unleashes an ancient horror in writer-director Joshua Kennedy‘s House of the Gorgon. Starring Caroline Munro, Martine Beswicke, Veronica Carlson and Christopher Neame, the movie was filmed in the vein of the classic Hammer and Universal films of yesteryear. “The year is 1896 and the lovely Isobel Banning travels with her mother Anna to the village of Carlstadt to marry her university sweetheart Dr. Julian Pritchard. Along their journey, they meet the mysterious Father Llewellyn, the local priest, who refuses to explain why the villagers appear to be in a state of mortal fear… as if the town is hiding a terrible secret. Frightened and confused, Isobel and Anna readily accept an invitation from Dr. Pritchard to stay with him and his aunt, the Baroness Bartov, in their large chateau overlooking the town… unaware of the ancient horror that lies within.” House of the Gorgon is set to arrive

Movie Review: Cute Little Buggers is a Campy Sci-Fi Bloodbath!

Cute Little Buggers begins as any great culturally relevant piece of art would; namely with horny fish aliens (with British accents) flying down to Earth in their U.F.O. in an attempt to impregnate any human female they can possibly get their hands…err, flippers…fins…whatever…on. To achieve this they splice alien D.N.A. into the local rabbit population which causes them to become ultra violent mutant killing machines…you know something, is it possible to fall in love with a film…like real, human love…because I think that is happening to me right this very second… Moving on, we have the tale of a prodigal son returning to his bucolic hometown and rekindling a lost love as townsfolk begin being brutally slaughtered by those laceratin’ lepus. It basically becomes an all out fight for survival as the bunnies begin chewin’ folks a new asshole (and I mean that literally). First things first, Cute Little Buggers is a flick with it’s tongue very firmly in it’s

What’s cute, fluffy, and deadly? The killer rabbits in Cute Little Buggers and they are coming this November!
