In the recently released horror game The Dark Pictures Anthology: House of Ashes, like the previous titles in the series, the basis of the game’s plot comes from historical events, in Man of Medan it was the urban legend during WWII of a ghost ship, in Little Hope, it was the Salem Witch Trials, and now in House of Ashes it’s the Curse of Akkad. At the start of the story, we see the Akkadians sacrificing Gutian soldiers with Naram-Sin of Akkad watching over before the curse takes shape in a supernatural way dooming Naram-Sin and the Akkadians. Historically there was mentioned a curse that befell the ancient ruler and his people, but what was it really? Let’s get right to it! Naram-Sin of Akkad was a real ruler, the fourth out of seven rulers of the Akkadian Empire that is now modern Iraq, Iran, Syria, and Turkey. It was said that he and the empire fell out of favor

A big thank you to BANDAI NAMCO for making this review possible and to help get the spooks flowing during the Halloween season with their third edition to their critically acclaimed The Dark Pictures Anthology series titled House of Ashes starring Ashley Tisdale. Like the previous titles, House of Ashes takes players to a remote part of the world where terror awaits and decisions are made with consequences and affect the outcome of the game’s main story. This time players are not adrift on a ghost ship in the Pacific or a fog enveloped ghost town in New England but trapped underground in a crumbling Assyrian temple in Iraq during the latter half of the Iraq War in 2003 where ancient horrors await. Returning fans of the game will be glad to know that the controls for the game are the same as the previous two games. The usual mechanics of the game is still there and thankfully have not

2020 has been a busy year of gaming and horror-themed games certainly were not in short supply! Going back through the games that were reviewed this year, I picked out games that stayed true to the genre of horror as well as a couple of games balanced on being considered horror or not but were still great games. So here’s the list of the top horror games reviewed, starting from the worst! The Suicide of Rachael Foster With an intriguing title that is more of a place card for what the game should really be called, “Firewatch copycat”, the game tries to scare but fails to do so with a story that needed a longer game in order to tell it fully but instead kept it short and garbled making it the worst game reviewed on Horror Fuel in 2020. Maid of Sker A visually beautiful game that has as many ups and downs as a fairground roller coaster. With

Fans of the Dark Pictures Anthology games were treated to a post-credits trailer at the end of Little Hope for the upcoming third installment titled House of Ashes featuring Ashley Tisdal (High School Musical). The game will take players to the Middle East wherein the trailer Tisdal’s character is seen lost in a cave with only a torch lighting her way and hearing something scurrying behind her as she passes a large statue of Pazuzu that many will recognized from the “Exorcist” films. The games Man of Medan, and Little Hope draw from real-world events and tales. Man of Medan took inspiration from a tale from WWII about a ghost ship called the SS Ourang Medan that was lost near Indonesia, all crew on board died mysteriously, to date the tale of the Ourang Medan can’t be confirmed as no ship by that name ever existed and no wreck of it was ever found. Little Hope takes place in Andover,
