Beautiful And Haunting: Game Review ‘Mundaun’

Hidden Fields and MWM Interactive were awesome enough to allow me the chance to check out their unique horror tale set in the Swiss Alps, Mundaun. The game follows a young man returning to the village of Mundaun where he grew up after receiving news that his grandfather died where shortly afterward the grandson soon discovers that there’s more to the story and a threat from the past awaits. Now onto Mundaun itself. The controls are very easy to master and not over thought out. The game handles well from its default settings so players are able to just start the game and go without any tweaking. When it comes to sound, finally, a game that does it right! The ambient sounds are not ridiculously loud or clearly on a loop but actually sound like how I would imagine it would be in the Alps, I’ll admit, I like it at one part in the story when you’re inside the

Blu-ray Review: A Slaughter in Plague Town (2008)

A bickering family of American tourists decide to stop off in a small Irish village located in a picturesque, verdant landscape. Seems prosaic enough, but as horror movies oft times go; this village has a deep, dark (in this case mutant) based secret that will put that vacay in a serious dovetail right quick! As you may surmise from that sinister synopsis, Plague Town (or A Slaughter in Plague Town) is a fright flick positively dripping with atmosphere. This is nowhere as evident in the locales utilized to bring this terror tale to life; all wicked woods and dark, almost monotone environs. It’s drab, it’s dreary, and it looks exactly like the place you’d run into some good ol’ folk horror madness! Adding to the positives are the lean n’ mean flow of the film delivered by co-writer (along with John Cregan)/director David Gregory keeps things disturbing and moving like a spectral locomotive from hell, so this one never becomes

Thom Burgess Explores Supernatural Folk Horror In ‘The Eyrie’

From writer Thom Burgess (Malevolents) and illustrator Barney Bodoano comes The Eyrie, a new graphic novella mixing equal parts ghost story and folk horror. As unnerving as it is beautiful, The Eyrie is the tale of Rebecca, an American photojournalist, who while working on location along the coast of Sussex, England, becomes entrenched in the darkness of the local folklore. She encounters the local townsfolk, who are a mostly friendly, if superstitious bunch. The thing is, they have every reason to be. Rebecca is being stalked by shadowy horrors born of death, torture, and revenge. Will she escape the quaint seaside town before she’s taken by the Long Men? Burgess’ dialog is realistic, his settings and backstories eerily familiar and at-once brand new, while Bodoano’s ominous storybook-style art brings a palpable feeling of a gloomy “otherness” to the work. Drenched in foreboding, sinister atmosphere akin to The Wicker Man and The Woman in Black, The Eyrie is more than a
