When the news broke that a new Friday the 13th film was in the works, fans were thrilled. But it has had problems since day one. Yesterday, the sequel was pulled from the release just as production was set to begin. At first we thought maybe it would be delayed due to the release date, set for October, and that it wouldn’t be able to be completed by then. Unfortunately, we’ve heard that it has not been delayed, but canceled all together. The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed that Platinum Dunes and the sequel’s director Breck Eisner were informed yesterday that the movie was canceled. This isn’t the first Friday the 13th to be canceled recently. Last year Paramount killed their Friday the 13th movie after their film Rings tanked at the Box Office. We are sorry to have to inform you all of this, but ‘Friday the 13th‘, one of the most highly anticipated films of the year, has been pulled from Paramount’s release schedule. The film, which we reported last week had hired Legacy Effects, was set to begin filming this Spring under the direction of Aaron Guzikowski (Prisoners). Casting had already begun for the roles of young Jason and his father Elias Voorhees, but there is no word if that will continue or be put on hold as well. Deadline is reporting that ‘Mother’, from director Darren Aronosfky, will take the place of ‘Friday the 13th’ on the schedule. The site is saying that the reason for the halt in production is that Paramount is not happy with ‘Rings” Box Office results on its opening weekend. ‘Mother’, a drama starring Jennifer Lawrence, centers on a couple whose relationship is tested when uninvited guests arrive at their home, disrupting their tranquil existence.

Breck Eisner is in the directors chair for reboot of ‘Friday the 13th’, which we reported earlier this week was finally entering production. Casting is now underway and filming set to begin in March in Conyers, Georgia. The film, penned by Aaron Guzikowski (Prisoners), will take us on a journey deeper into Jason’s history. Not only will we learn more about our favorite machete toting killer, we will see Pamela Voorhees and for the first time on film we will meet Jason’s father Elias Voorhees. F13Franchise.com is now reporting that Platinum Dunes has hired Legacy Effects to bring Jason back to life by creating the special effects, props, and Jason’s iconic mask. Word is, the new mask will resemble the mask from ‘Friday the 13th: Part 3’. In that film Richard Brooker wore the Jason mask which had red chevron markings, scratches, and had a yellow hue. After a long period of silence, we finally have an update on the highly-anticipated ‘Friday the 13th’ sequel. The sequel is now casting and is set to begin filming this spring in Conyers, Georgia under the direction of Breck Eisner (The Crazies), from the script penned by Aaron Guzikowski (Prisoners), FridayThe13thFranchise.com is reporting. “The reason that the production in Conyers is interesting is that Platinum Dunes is scheduled for shooting in that town starting in March and lasting through to May. That leads us to believe a good majority of filming should take place in that area. Another interesting bit of information about Conyers is that it is just under 12 miles away from Covington, Georgia, where Jason Lives: Friday The 13th Part VI was filmed!” The film has been described as an origin story by Brad Fuller and Andrew Form who are producing for Platinum Dunes. The new ‘Friday the 13th’ film has run into several issues and delays, leaving fans wondering if we would even get to see Jason resurrected for another killing spree. It seems that the film is finally moving forward. The location has been found and the date set to begin filming. In an interview with Collider, Brad Fuller, who is producing the film for Platinum Dunes, gave an update on the new ‘Friday the 13th’ film. In terms of fun, making [the 2009 film] was so fun. The cast was great, we were in a great setting, everyone got along. We had a lot of fun making that movie and we always wanted to go back to Crystal Lake and make another one. There were so many obstacles to surmount to get to where we are today. I’m not going to bore you with all of them but for a long time, there was a rights issue between Paramount and Warner

The CW has been working on a reboot of Friday the 13th in series form for a while now. We reported back in April that they had killed the series, titled Chrystal Lake Chronicles. Now, they’ve made it official. At yesterday’s Television Critics Association’s press tour CW president Mark Pedowitz explained their decision to ax the series, written by Aaron Guzikowski We had better pilots,” Pedowitz said. “The bottom line is we felt we had stronger things to go with, and we didn’t go forward with it. It was well-written, it was darker than we wanted it to be, and we didn’t believe it had sustainability…We didn’t believe that it was a sustainable script, a sustainable series.” It is a bit disappointing that after all this time the show won’t be airing. But the good news is there is still a new Friday the 13th film coming our way.

Paramount Pictures and Platinum Dunes’ next film in the Friday the 13th franchise is moving forward towards its 2017 release. Aaron Guzikowski turned in the script for the film last month, according to Bloody Disgusting. The film has a new director, Breck Eisner, who is replacing David Bruckner. Eisner was the director behind The Crazies,and The Last Witch Hunter. He will also be directing Universal’s upcoming remake of The Creature From the Black Lagoon and New Line’s Escape From New York. Back in June producer Brad Fuller, stated that the film is an “origin-ish” story that delves into Jason’s backstory and is a film we haven’t seen before. We will soon be returning to Camp Crystal Lake. Friday the 13th has not one, but two reboots in the works. After several delays the second reboot, produced by Brad Fuller, is now set to premiere in January of 2017, though a director has yet to be found. Fuller dropped a few details about the film in a conversation with The Reel World recently. According to Fuller, the script penned by Aaron Guzikowski delves into Jason’s backstory and that it is not an origin story we’ve seen before. “Aaron’s story has great characters…You kind of have to understand Jason Voorhees, so we go back and we kind of started over and work our way forward,” Fuller told The Reel World. “[It’s] origin-ish, but it’s an origin that no one has seen before. The new Friday the 13th reoot is experiencing problems, once again. This time, they have gained Aaron Guzikowski as a new writer, but now the film has lost yet another director. David Bruckner is no longer attached and a new director has not been announced. There was a rumor the the reboot would be found footage. However Brad Fuller (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles), a producer for the 2016 film, has stated that it will in fact, NOT be found footage. I’m very happy to hear this, found footage may be considered a good and cheap, alternative way to film, but in my opinion it’s over used and often obnoxious. Fuller made this statement back in March: “I could just say that for a long time we were stalled…” Fuller continues (during an interview with Shock Till You Drop) “…the film was going to be a found footage movie and that was a road that we went down and tried to
