When the news broke that a new Friday the 13th film was in the works, fans were thrilled. But it has had problems since day one. Yesterday, the sequel was pulled from the release just as production was set to begin. At first we thought maybe it would be delayed due to the release date, set for October, and that it wouldn’t be able to be completed by then. Unfortunately, we’ve heard that it has not been delayed, but canceled all together.
The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed that Platinum Dunes and the sequel’s director Breck Eisner were informed yesterday that the movie was canceled.
This isn’t the first Friday the 13th to be canceled recently. Last year Paramount killed their Friday the 13th movie after their film Rings tanked at the Box Office. They were left with cold feet and were concerned that their Friday the 13th would suffer the same fate.
Someday, hopefully sooner rather than later, we will see Jason return to the big screen. I would love to see Victor Miller, creator and writer of the original Friday the 13th, involved.
