Hold onto your childhood memories while you still can because they’re about to get seriously mangled. After the Winnie the Pooh movies, followed by Peter Pan’s Neverland Nightmare, the “Poohniverse” is gearing up to expand. This time, Bambi is going full-on horror in Bambi: The Reckoning.
Bambi: The Reckoning has unleashed its official trailer, and let me tell you, it’s not your grandma’s Disney flick. Bambi, a once sweet and innocent deer, has gone bad! Move over, Cujo, a new animal terror is on his way! This isn’t just another masked slasher flick in the public domain horror trend. Nope, we’re talking full-blown rabid creature feature.
Here’s the setup: a mother and son get into a car wreck, and boom, they’re being hunted by Bambi. But not just any Bambi. This is a mutated, grief-stricken deer, out for bloody revenge for his mom’s demise. Talk about a wild plot twist.
Director Dan Allen (“Unhinged”) is promising some serious scares.
“It’s gonna be terrifying,” he says. “When people see a deer in the wild after this film they’re gonna run for the hills. This film is about the death of childhoods as much as it’s gonna ruin childhoods. Expect bloodshed, tears and rabbits… and one mean killer deer. At last, the British countryside will finally get its Godzilla.”
Roxanne Mckee (Wrong Turn 5, “Game of Thrones”) leads the charge as Xana, with Tom Mulheron playing her son. The cast also includes Nicola Wright (Sexy Beast), Samira Mighty (Beauty and the Beast), Alex Cooke (Blood Vessel), and Russell Geoffrey Banks (Ghost House).
This whole “Twisted Childhood Universe,” or “Poohniverse,” is being brought to you by ITN Studios and Jagged Edge Productions, with Rhys Warrington penning the script. Bambi: The Reckoning is just one piece of the puzzle. We’ve also got Pinocchio Unstrung coming, and eventually, all these messed-up childhood icons will collide in “Poohniverse: Monsters Assemble.”
So, get ready to see Bambi in a whole new light. It’s gonna be bloody, it’s gonna be wild, and it’s definitely gonna mess with your nostalgia. Summer 2025 can’t come soon enough.
