At the Video Game Awards, fans were treated to a trailer for Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II that’s coming exclusively to the new Xbox Series X console next holiday season. The game, a sequel to Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice, depicts things are going to get darker for the game’s heroine as it looks like she’s bringing Hel (Norse goddess of the underworld as well as the name of the realm she rules) to the Norsemen. The one thing about the trailer that struck fans the most besides the graphics and imagery of the game, but the song used in the trailer. The song titled “In Maidjan” (translated “To Corrupt”) is quite hypnotic, and badass, just like the band that performed it, Heilung. I’m a fan of the band so it pleases me to finally be able to share with you the band that will be collaborating with Ninja Theory to make the soundtrack for the sequel to the game that I love.

Imagine you’re at work one day and by chance, they needed someone to step in and perform a task you were not trained for and you nailed it on your first try. After impressing your coworkers you keep the position and as a result, you won the highest honors for it. This is what happened to Melina Juergens, my personal pick for Women of Horror Month. German-born Melina was working as a video editor for Ninja Theory while they were in the middle of making, what would become, their multi-award-winning video game, Hellbade: Senua’s Sacrifice. When the time came to animate the title character’s movements, Melina stepped in to don the motion capture suit and perform as the game’s heroine Senua, this inadvertently became an audition. Impressing everyone, Melina was now officially playing the title role both voicing and acting out her actions via-motion capture. Adding more to it, her likeness was used for Senua forever cementing her place in

2018 was a sad year for horror video games. Many games that were scheduled to be released were pushed back to the upcoming year while some that were supposed to start going into development in ’18 simply never happened. Even some titles that were released slipped through the cracks without even drawing attention, but like most crappy things in life, there’s a silver lining, in this case, five of them. Without further ado and in no particular order, here are my Top 5 Horror Games Of 2018. Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice (Windows, PlayStation 4, Xbox One) This dark fantasy by Ninja Theory has won over 20 awards and enchanted fans with a fusion world of Norse and Celtic cultures. The story follows a Pict warrior woman named Senua as she journeys through the Norse underworld Helheim to rescue her lover who was sacrificed by the Norsemen. The most prominent plot device that helps make this game a success is the fact

It’s no big secret; I love “Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice”, the dark fantasy video game by Ninja Theory struck a chord with many players as it deals with the sensitive subject of mental health, uniquely through the eyes of a young woman back in early human history during the time of Celts and Vikings. In order to make the symptoms of Senua’s psychosis authentic, Ninja Theory consulted with Mental Health experts as well as individuals who actually are going through treatment for the illness. Because of this delicate attention to detail, “Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice” to date has won 19 awards! Proceeds of the sale of the game went towards charities involving mental health but now Ninja Theory has taken it a step further, by creating a scholarship that will fund training for mental health tutors at the CPFT Recovery College East who played a big role in helping with research for the game, the scholarship is appropriately named “Senua’s Scholarship”. Ninja Theory is again taking the gaming experience to a whole other level in “Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice VR Edition”. The BAFTA award-winning game will now have a VR feature that will launch on Steam on July 31, 2018, for the Oculus Rift and HTC Vive. The VR feature will be free to those who already purchased the game on Steam. The story will still be in third-person but the headset will now act as the camera as well as an aid in controlling Senua’s movements. “Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice” is a dark fantasy game about a young Pict woman named Senua who has come to the land of the “Northmen” to travel to their underworld to rescue the soul of her lover who was sacrificed to Hel, the Northmen’s goddess of the underworld. The main focus of the story is that Senua suffers from Psychosis that affects how she sees the world on her journey. Below is a video diary showcasing

This is a Spoiler Free article! Ninja Theory has released on Xbox One today their hit game Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice that received positive reviews when it was on PlayStation 4 and PC. Ninja Theory allowed me to play the Xbox One version early and write a review for it. After finally completing the game, all I can say is the last time I’ve ever played a game that made me sit back and say “Wow…” after completing it was Shadow of the Colossus on PlayStation 2 back in 2006. The following are my final thoughts on Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice a game that’s both haunting and beautiful. It’s no big secret; the storyline’s core is about Senua’s mental health, this would make her relatable to the 1 in 5 American adults who suffer from all ranges of mental illnesses. The developers kept it no secret that Senua suffers from Psychosis, right now you’re probably thinking negatively of her thanks in part

In August of 2017 indie-game developer Ninja Theory released on PlayStation 4 and PC, Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice. The game was so popular on PS4 and PC it earned high praises from both critics and players alike as well as winning nine awards! With this success, Ninja Theory expanded the game’s potential and will release it on Xbox One on April 11th, 2018! I’ve been granted the honor by Ninja Theory to review it before it hit’s selves. All I can say now is you need to get this game! The game is heavily influenced by ancient Celtic culture along with Norse mythology, that’s enough right there to make you throw your wallets at the screen right now. The game revolves not just on the culture and mythology but on our heroine Senua’s mental health, Ninja Theory worked closely with mental health experts to make this part of the experience as real as possible, this is where the game is unique.
