Breaking Down Rammstein’s Controversial Video ‘Deutschland’

The German metal group Rammstein, have released their first new single in 10 years, the song is simply titled, Deutschland (Germany). Along with the new single came its music video which Rammstein is known for having very cinematic videos but prior to the release, a teaser video was posted to Youtube by the band depicting the band’s keyboardist Flake Lorenz, lead singer Till Lindemann, rhythm guitarist Paul Landers, and bassist Oliver Riedel with nooses around their necks standing under a makeshift gallows dressed in concentration camp uniforms. The teaser video along with the actual music video, directed by Specter Berlin, has come under fire by critics in Germany and elsewhere in the world for the use of Holocaust imagery. After watching the music video multiple times my history nerd side became intrigued. While many focused on the concentration camp imagery, they’re missing a bigger picture being painted. Mind-Blowing Study Showed Victims Of Vesuvius May Have Died More Violently Than Originally Thought.

In 1981 an excavation in the ancient city of Herculaneum’s waterfront uncovered the remains of victims of the Mount Vesuvius eruption in 79AD. The skeletal remains of 55 Roman citizens (30 men, 13 women, 12 children) were located in vacant boathouses on a small beach with a waterway leading out to sea. With the absence of (functional) boats on site led to the theory that this was the site of an evacuation. Originally it’s been accepted that these individuals died from suffocation due to the Pyroclastic flow from Mount Vesuvius, because of the skeletal state of the remains, it made it easier to examine possible causes of death unlike the famous ghostly remains of the victims of the city of Pompeii. A recent study published in the scientific journal PLOS ONE offers a disturbing hypothesis, the 55 victims in the boathouses of Herculaneum’s waterfront died as a result of their blood boiling to the point it made their heads “explode”.

Ralph H. Baer: Father Of Video Games

July 8th is Video Game Day, a day where gamers celebrate by sharing their favorite games, talking about their gaming memories, and engage in the age-old argument on which is better console or PC. While we (gamers) celebrate both the nostalgia and future of gaming, there’s one person we really should celebrate, Ralph H. Baer (1922-2014). Without Baer, we probably would never have had gaming systems. So who is he? Baer was born in Germany in 1922. Life was hard for Baer and his family due to the social and political firestorm that was taking over Germany at the time, and that they were Jewish. In 1938 at the age of 16, Baer’s family moved to New York, two months later the infamous Kristallnacht took place. Hans Asperger: Autism’s Dr. Jekyll And Nazi Mr. Hyde

WARNING: The following information and images may be disturbing to some In a shocking twist that would be something out of a Hitchcock film, Hans Asperger, the Austrian Pediatrician, Medical Theorist, and a professor was on the wrong side of history, make that, the darkest wrong side of history. Though Asperger is known and celebrated for his research in childhood autism and discovering the higher functioning spectrum of it which was named after him (Asperger Syndrome), he was involved in a dark chapter in history many are not aware of, Action T4. On April 19, 2018, Molecular Autism published their findings after eight years of peer review concluding that Asperger, who has said in the past that he defended his patients against the Nazis, in fact, partook in Action T4 (Aktion T4) the systematically forced euthanasia of mentally handicapped children. Morbid Beauty: Tipu’s Tiger

In the 18th century, England set its sights on colonizing India. India was prosperous in its own ways and would enter the modern age on its own time but England viewed it differently that they were backwater savages that needed to be forced into the present and to grovel thankfully for it. Obviously, this did not sit well with many of the country’s inhabitants leading to deep seeded resentment at the time (and still felt today somewhat). Nothing illustrates this more than the hand-cranked automaton known as Tipu’s Tiger. The machine depicts a tiger on top of a British soldier biting his neck as the soldier lies with a look of horror on his face. That’s not the end of it, the soldier moves; well his arm does in a flailing motion making the hand uncover the mouth where a metal pipe is and allows air to come out making a dull wailing sound as if the man is screaming.

All That’s Left: The Only Remains Of The Franklin’s Lost Expedition

One of maritime history’s biggest mysteries still baffles some experts to this day and leaves the door open for interpretation to what happened to the crew of what became known as Franklin’s Lost Expedition. The expedition was of the Northwest Passage to find a faster route for English ships to travel to Asia without having to cross the Atlantic and passing through Cape Horn (the southernmost tip of South America). The expedition led by Sir John Franklin departed from England in 1845. Franklin lead 128 men on this voyage who crewed the two recently modified warships turned icebreakers, the HMS Erebus and HMS Terror. The two ships made their way to the Canadian Arctic and were never seen again. Three years later an expedition was launch to find all 129 men. The Real ‘The Ghost And The Darkness’

In 1996 moviegoers’ evolutionary ancestral fear of humans being prey to an apex predator was put on display in the film ‘The Ghost and the Darkness’, a historical action horror film that starred Val Kilmer as Lt. Colonel John Henry Patterson. Kilmer’s character goes to Tsavo, Kenya to help a railroad company with a “Wild Life” problem where workers are being attacked by two Lions. After arriving and encountering the Lions himself, he soon discovers that these Lions are not normal and are bloodthirsty and go on a kill/eating spree. Towards the end of the film, Kilmer’s character gets ’s help from Michael Douglas’s character, Charles Remington, a professional large game hunter, and the two discover that the lions are killing for sport. Fast forward to the end, Kilmer solves the problem and the railway is complete. As it was mentioned at the end of the film, the Lions of Tsavo can be seen today at the Field Museum in

Zombies, Vampires Or Humans: Burying A False Meme

Oh the internet, you give us hours of entertainment and insight into the world around us. Sadly you’re also the home of the misinformed and the gullible. There’s been a meme circulating the web for years showing a gravesite with an iron cage covering it, quite peculiar indeed till you read the text that accompanies it. There’s a lot wrong with this meme. First off, the Victorians (1837-1901) were not as naive and terrified of the world around them as the generations before them. Many Victorians never heard of Vampires till in 1897 Irish author Bram Stoker published ‘Dracula’. After its publication, more Vampire stories showed up in works of fiction and still to this day. Zombies, the odds of a common Victorian knowing about Haitian or West African lore was slim. There’s no time like the present for a quick history lesson. Almost every one of us have used a Ouija board at least once in our lives. More than likely the first experience you had with a board was at a sleep over asking silly questions like “Who will I marry?” or “Is Elvis really dead?”. At some point you probably got spooked and swore to never use one again, I know I did. Then there are those who seek answers and communications with those beyond in a more serious note. The word Ouija alone conjures fear and mystery. The Ouija has been widely used for almost 125 years.
