DVD Review: All the Creatures Were Stirring (2018)

An awkward couple arrive at a playhouse presenting a series of vignettes, named after phrases from ‘The Night Before Christmas‘, and based on varying elements of the Christmas spirit (and hosted by a silent master of ceremonies portrayed by genre mainstay Maria Olsen). Thus begins the latest arcane anthology from our beloved horror biz titled All the Creatures Were Stirring. The first story up is called ‘The Stockings Were Hung‘, and concerns an office Holiday party where the gift exchange goes hideously awry as an unwanted participant turns the game into a murder packed fight for survival! This was a tale equal parts humorous and grim and a very strong start to the ho ho horror at hand. Next we have ‘Dash Away All‘ which presents the terror tale of a man trying to get home for Christmas. Things become complicated when he locks his keys in his car and seeks help from two mysterious women in a van…a van

Movie Review: Christmas Blood (2017)

Ho, ho, mother fuckin’ ho; what do we have here boils n’ ghouls? A Christmas set thriller where a slashin’ Santa works his way through a group of victims. Good to see originality is still alive and well in the ol’ horror biz… Anyway, there is a killer Santa that terrorizes folks with a pick-ax every Yuletide, and this year he brings his murder biz to a small Norweigian town where a group of female friends have gathered for a reunion. Things get bloody for our comely heroines and soon their mortality is seriously in jeopardy. Thankfully for them, a grizzled (and alcoholic) detective and his gung-ho partner make the scene, and they are bound and determined to bring these horrible holiday homicides to a swift end! While I may have brought the sass up-top, Christmas Blood, for all of it’s trope-heavy elements, nevertheless delivers some effective storytelling and visuals. Writer/Director Reinert Kiil (with that name, fright flick Director was

Movie Review: Krampus Origins (2018)

As World War I rages out of control; a group of doughboys find an ancient book…which gets sent back to the good ol’ U.S. of A. after the soldiers meet their end in battle. The tome ends up in the hands of the commanding officer’s widow…who teaches at a small-town orphanage populated by the kind of dumb ass kids who can’t leave an incredibly evil artifact alone, which has the undesirable side effect of unleashing everyone’s fav Germanic Christmas demon, Krampus, which they must then try and defeat! In theory, Krampus Origins has a hell of a lot going for it. It has an original premise (kids in the early 20th Century taking on a mythical demon from Europe…right fuckin’ on!), some solid performances (especially from genre legend Maria Olsen…though the young leads are rather good as well), and solid set dressing; including period accurate costumes, and a great prop in that aforementioned evil book, which is realized in a

‘Krampus Origins’ Is Coming To Town Just In Time For The Holiday Season

You may leave out cookies and milk for ole Saint Nick, but the last thing you’d want to do is give Krampus a reason to visit. While Santa wants to spoil the good little boys and girls, Krampus has something nasty planned for those who misbehave. From director Joseph Mbah comes Krampus Origins, the terrifying backstory of the Krampus legend, written by Robert Conway. Set during the first World War, “a group of American soldiers find a mysterious artifact that can summon the ancient evil of the Krampus. After the men are killed in action, the artifact is sent to the commanding officer’s widow who is a teacher at a small-town orphanage. The orphans accidentally summon the Krampus and the teacher, and her pupils are forced to battle this ancient evil.” Starring Maria Olsen (I Spit on Your Grave: Déjà vu, Paranormal Activity 3) and Anna Harr (Bethany, Restoration), Krampus Origins lands on digital and DVD on November 6, 2018,

Movie Review: Dead by Christmas (2018)

A group of ol’ chums gather in Louisiana (more on that in a bit my creeps) for the holidays to honor their dead friend Sam (Cody Wise), who unbeknownst to them was murdered by a candy cane to the eyes courtesy of a sinister Santa. Once there we learn of their tortured past being raised in an orphanage where a priest (who often dressed as Santa) regularly rubbed their rosary beads if ya can dig on what I’m laying down. Before long that freaky Father Christmas arrives on the scene and begins killing our protagonists one by one On the plus side, Dead by Christmas shows off some decent cinematography here and there, as well as a few instances of practical gore which are always welcome. Additionally the back story was unique enough to add interest to the film, and I also enjoyed the setting; by taking place in December in Louisiana, the environs have an Autumnal quality to them

Luckily for Obediah, police tracked Judah down and stopped the sacrifice, but Judah was gunned down in the process. Warped by hatred with no guidance, Obediah Lazarus becomes a religious extremist, intolerant of non-Jews, “bad Jews”, and
