Hurricanes And Horror Movies: 3 Flicks That Take Place During Brutal Storms

Having just gone through one of the worst hurricanes Florida has experienced in decades, I got to thinking about some of the best horror films that have taken place during hurricanes. The list is surprisingly short. Hopefully, we’ve seen our last hurricane for the season, but for those of you that want to experience some hurricane-horror from the comfort of your own couch, here’s a short list of flicks that take place during some of the worst storms Mother Nature can throw at us. I Still Know What You Did Last Summer In this sequel to 1997’s I Know What You Did Last Summer, it’s one year after the killing of a crazy hit-and-run victim turned slasher Ben Willis and survivor girl Julie James (Jennifer Love Hewitt) has won a trip to the Bahamas with some of her new college friends. They arrive at a resort that’s operating with a skeleton crew, and apparently, none of them get the weather

Composer/Filmmaker Rocky Gray Discusses Upcoming Project ‘10/31’ And More

Though perhaps known on a wider scale more for his many contributions to metal music (Gray has been a member of Gothic metal acts Evanescence and We Are the Fallen, influential metalcore band Living Sacrifice, and many, many others), among horror fans, Rocky Gray is known for his retro-synth score in the indie-horror hit, The Barn. Well, it turns out that film was no fluke, as Gray sits down with Horror Fuel to discuss his many current horror projects, from music composition and his influences, to sitting in the director’s chair. Horror Fuel: The Barn is one of my favorite things to come into existence in quite some time. It captures that 1980s slasher/creature feature/endearing cheese vibe perfectly. How was it working on that slice of retro horror heaven? Rocky Gray: You said it; it really was horror heaven. For my first time scoring a full horror feature, it was really fun to work on. HF: What were your influences

‘IT’ Scares Up R Rating

Rejoice, horror fans, as it appears Pennywise won’t be holding back when it comes to visceral terror. Despite the studio trend of the last decade plus to make sure nearly every theatrical horror film gets a tame PG-13 rating, the new adaptation of Stephen King‘s beloved novel ‘IT’ will be rated R when it’s released theatrically this September. The MPAA has cited the highly-anticipated film’s “violence/horror”, blood, and harsh language as the reasons for the restricted rating. Let the crippling coulrophobia commence! ‘IT’ floats into theaters everywhere September 8, 2017.

Trailer For “BnB Hell” Looks Exciting and Terrifying!

Ethereal music, screams and odd characters are nothing new in horror trailers, but the trailer for BnB Hell has a chilling feel to it that I can’t quite put my finger on. To quote Jack Nicholson’s Joker from 1989’s Batman “I don’t know what it is, but I like it.” Directed by Andrew Jordan, written by Andrea Harrison. Starring Kimberly Woods, Rudy Dobrev, and Carol Stanzione. Don’t miss it! A young woman’s hunt for her missing sister ends at a rundown bed and breakfast in the Hollywood Hills run by an ill-tempered woman called Mommy. Disturbing messages left by former guests suggest unsettling secrets lay buried there. Check out the trailer and then check out the movie on June 15. It will be available on iTunes, Amazon, Google Play, and more.

Reviews

Reel Nightmare is a “Reel” Flop

I usually try to be pretty kind with movie reviews and I am fairly easy to please, but I have been racking my brain to find the pros outweighing the cons for Armand Petri’s Reel Nightmare. I watched the movie in a couple of sittings and absolutely couldn’t get hooked. I could see where the film was going and what Petri was trying to do, but it just fell absolutely flat. Not only was the acting blah, but the story was lost in the absolute cluelessness of the characters. Little things like not even mentioning the blacked out eyes of one of their friends after being possessed. Madeleine Heil, who plays the lead Sophie, was actually pretty good. But other than that, I’m sorry. Over the top stereotypes of horror tropes, homosexuality, machismo, and damsel in distress were laughable if not offensive. On the positive side, the plot was tried and true and the effects (both makeup and paranormal) really
