We Want You…To Watch These 8 Patriotic Horror Films On The 4th Of July

Jaws (1975) Set over the July 4th weekend, Jaws centers on a battle between a giant shark and three men out to catch it before it kills again. The Shining (1980) While most of the film has nothing to do with the 4th of July, there is one scene that ties it to the holiday. If you look closely at the picture that shows Jack Nicholson’s image in a crowded photo you will see that the picture is labeled as being taken at a 4th of July celebration which is enough to land the classic on this list. Final Destination 3 (2006) When one student’s premonition of a roller coaster disaster saves her and her friends’ lives death tries to put things right. After several friends are claimed by death the survivors run into each other at a 4th of July celebration where all hell breaks loose. The third installment of the franchise is filled with great kills. Uncle Sam

Independence Day: A Landmark Disaster

Cynema is not a film review series. There are plenty of those online. Once in awhile a film comes along that defines everything about my Cynema concept. The latest is Roland Emerich’s two decades later (Why? That’s addressed later) sequel, Independence Day: Resurgence. It’s hands down one of the worst films of the last five years. I knew what I was getting myself into. This is one of those movies that you can easily dismiss by saying “what did you expect? It’s okay, it’s not the worst thing ever. Just go with it.” They got my money. However as I write this I continue to fight. I resist. I will not go into the darkness quietly…I had to get my Bill Pullman Henry V/Braveheart speech moment because a a number of people in this cynical mess try for one. I counted at least four times when someone tried to give some kind of “let’s kick ass” mini speech or pep

The Asylum Presents Independent’s Day ?

The Asylum, the leading source of mockbusters, has a made a bold move, making their own version of Independence Day/ Independence Day: Resurgence to capitalize on this summers release of the second installment of the blockbuster franchise. In fact, I would not be surprised if there is a lawsuit in The Asylum’s near future over Independents’ Day. The Asylum released the trailer, but there is no information to be found, even IMDb is clueless about the film, at least we assume there is a film. We are not sure who directed, who stars or when it will be released. All we can tell you is that in the movie aliens are attacking earth, a woman is president, there’s a bald guy who’s important to the story and there a big alien ships shooting lasers. Oh, and the white house is destroyed, which looks a lot like a scene out of Independence Day. We will let you know when we learn

In the sequel the nations of Earth, using the alien’s technology, have built a defense system knowing that one day the aliens would return, but nothing has prepared them for the fight ahead. It’s up to a few brave men and women to fight back and save the world from extinction. Several on the original movies’ cast are returning for ‘Resurgence’, including Jeff Goldblum, Bill Pullman, Vivica A. Fox, Sela Ward and Judd Hirsch. Cynema: Godzilla vs. Gino

Go Go Godzilla “We spared no expense.” – Sir Richard Attenborough, Jurassic Park Rumors circulated Hollywood since the early 1990’s of an American Godzilla movie. Writers and directors left the project and by 1996, Toho and Sony/Tri Star came to terms and the producing team of Dean Devlin and Roland Emmerich were anointed to bring a full fledged American Godzilla film to the US masses. He would attack New York City; it would boast a big name cast and incorporate state of the art visual effects. There would be no man in a giant rubber suit in this film since Jurassic Park raised the bar for giant reptilian creatures. Toho Knew In the wake of the successful 2014 reboot (which had its own issues), it seems like a cheap shot to take yet another swipe at the much maligned (and deservedly so) 1998 mess. This time it’s to see how this film fits the Cynema paradigm. It’s not Godzilla, it
