The Golden Globe Nominated Horror ‘La Llorona’ Is Coming To Digital

RLJE Films is set to unleash the politically charged Golden Globe nominated horror film La Llorona this March. La Llorona blends together the terror of both myth and reality into a devastating exposé of the genocidal atrocities against the Mayan community in Guatemala. Through a modern retelling of the classic Latin American legend, La Llorona forces a reckoning with not-so-distant crimes that should not have ever have been forgotten. The story centers on indignant retired general Enrique who finally faces trial for the genocidal massacre of thousands of Mayans decades ago. As a horde of angry protestors threatens to invade their opulent home, the women of the house – his haute wife, conflicted daughter, and precocious granddaughter – weigh their responsibility to shield the erratic, senile Enrique against the devastating truths behind being publicly revealed and the increasing sense that a wrathful supernatural force is targeting them for his crimes. Meanwhile, much of the family’s domestic staff flee, leaving only

Movie Review: La Llorona

In Guatemalan/French co-production La Llorona, director Jayro Bustamante offers up a historical and political spin on the South American legend of the titular “Weeping Woman” ghost. The result is an eerie film that delivers the supernatural goods along with topical drama. Ailing, aged military dictator General Enrique Monteverde (Julio Diaz) is confined to his home after a court decision that finds him guilty of war crimes against the indigeous Kaqchikel people is overturned by his cronies. Guatemalan citizens including Kaqchikel people protest outside his mansion around the clock. Stuck inside with the General are his embittered, witchcraft-practicing wife Carmen (Margarita Kenéfic); their physician daughter Natalia (Sabrina De La Hoz); her young daughter Sara (Ayla-Elea Hurtado); and head servant Valeríana (María Telón). After one night when the General hears a woman wailing and investigates with a gun in hand, all of the staff members except Valeríana resign in fear. A new servant named Alma (María Mercedes Coroy) is hired, and from
