Movie Review: MOMO: The Missouri Monster (2019)

Blackburn’s Cryptid Casefiles, hosted by cryptid expert/author Lyle Blackburn, sets it’s sights on the events of the ol’ summer of ’72; when a hairy sumbitch bugged the shit outta the residents of Louisiana, Missouri. Locations are visited, the locals are chatted up… business as usual; but the real feather in the creepy cap is the presentation of clips from a rediscovered film on the subject from decades past. All of this blurs the line between fantasy and reality as Seth Breedlove and Small Town Monsters have changed up their basic straight-up documentary style format and have presented some elaborate re-enactments with the inclusion of the faux fright film footage (not to mention the addition of Blackburn rather than having Breedlove himself narrate the events) in the style of one of my fav flicks The Legend of Boggy Creek, and the end result is a ton of fearsome fun! Orion Bringing Momo To Life For New Horror Movie

Last year the dangerous Momo Challenge went viral before the world learned the image behind it was actually a sculpture by artist Keisuke Aisawa called “Mother Bird”. It was only a matter of time before someone turned it into a movie. Orion Pictures is reportedly doing just that. Orion has now revealed that it has plans to make a movie based on the hoax. The studio is teaming up with Roy Lee‘s production company Vertigo Entertainment with producer Taka Ichise at the helm. Ichise and Lee have teamed up before to deliver the remake of The Grudge and a new Grudge remake which is set to open in theaters early next year.

New Small Town Monsters Documentary Explores The Legend Of ‘Momo: The Missouri Monster’

A new “docu-drama” from indie film production company, Small Town Monsters, seeks to tell the true and truly strange story of the Missouri Monster. The hair-covered, three-toed monstrosity was said to have prowled the forests of “Star Hill” near Louisiana, Missouri during the summer of 1972 where it was seen by terrified citizens for weeks. The case gained national media attention during the ’70s and remains one of the largest tourist draws for the tiny town, which sits on the banks of the Mississippi River. The first trailer for the film debuts today and hints at the storytelling devices employed, as well as some of the fascinating interviews and locations. The latest release from Small Town Monsters and director, Seth Breedlove, is told in narrative and documentary form. The narrative sections appear under the guise of a lost b-movie from the 70s. ‘Momo’ Artist Speaks Out

Keisuke Aiso is an artist and the head of a special effects company called Link Factory, which makes props for Japanese TV shows. In 2016 he exhibited a some creepy looking sculptures in a series titled Onnen. One of the sculptures at the time was a three-foot-tall woman-bird hybrid that acted as the artist’s vision of the Japanese Yōkai Ubume, this creature takes on the form of either a woman who died at childbirth or a bird-like creature that mimics the sounds of babies and attacks children. The latex creature was simply called Ubume but it earned a new name, later on, Momo, the centerpiece of the latest internet urban legend and hoax. Momo is said to contact children through the internet and threaten them into completing challenges that usually involve self-harm or suicide as the story goes. Momo Hoax, Momo Problems.

Back in August, fears grew among parents in South America as police were looking for an internet user going by the name, Momo. The nefarious user is said to text children who look for it online and gives them a challenge in which they either hurt themselves or others. It turned out the suicide of a 12-year-old girl in Argentina (mentioned in a previous article) was NOT a result of a “Suicide challenge” as originally suspected and was confirmed by Argentinean authorities. Recently there’s been a surge in Momo memes on social media (especially Facebook) that have some scratching their heads and others worried, thanks in part to the Police Service of Northern Ireland posting a warning on Facebook about Momo and it’s “challenge” which was brought to their attention thus causing some panic in the UK. Claims that Momo appears in children’s videos on Youtube, or contacted youths playing Fortnite have not been confirmed as internet sleuths (professional and

Police Searching For ‘Suicide Challenge’ Creator

An online phenomenon is being blamed for the death of a 12-year-old Argentinean girl who died as a result of a “suicide challenge” that’s connected to a WhatsApp profile. The challenge is named after the profile it originates from, Momo. The Momo challenge appears to target youth in South America but cases have been reported in the US and Germany. Users who contact the profile will receive disturbing messages and commands from the user identifying them self as Momo, who orders them to perform tasks which usually results in self-harm. The user threatens it’s victims with violent images or videos as well as claiming there’s a curse if the victim fails to obey. Momo appears to target the young and impressionable causing authorities to ask for parents to monitor their children’s use of WhatsApp. What makes Momo terrifying is the image that’s being used for its profile picture.
