This October ‘The Curse Of Audrey Earnshaw’ Will Cast Its Spell On You

Writer-director Thomas Robert Lee takes viewers on a dark journey filled with religious paranoia, horror, and revenge set against the autumnal palette of the harvest season in 1973 in The Curse of Audrey Earnshaw. The film explores the disturbing bond between Audrey, an enigmatic young woman, and Agatha, her domineering ‘mother’, who live secretly as occultists on the outskirts of a remote Protestant village. As the community is besieged by a pestilence of unknown origin: children, fields, and livestock begin to die — yet the Earnshaw farm remains strangely unaffected. As mass hysteria sets in the village, the townsfolk commence accusations against Audrey and Agatha of witchcraft. Catherine Walker, Jared Abrahamson, Hannah Emily Anderson, Geraldine O’Rawe, Don McKellar, and Sean McGinley star in The Curse of Audrey Earnshaw, featuring Jessica Reynolds in the titular role of Audrey Earnshaw. I wanted to tell a story about legacy, and to specifically explore it within the context of a folk horror narrative,”says writer-director

DVD Review: The Baylock Residence (2019)

During the Blitz of England circa 1944, Patricia Woodhouse (Kelly Goudie) has to contend with the potential of being blown to smithereens as well as settling the affairs of her recently departed estranged sister Susanna Baylock. Once arriving at that humble abode, our heroine is informed by her sister’s maid, Annabel Blair (Sarah Wynne Kordas) that she has inherited the whole kit n’ caboodle. Lucky day for you, eh Patty? Well, maybe not that lucky as she immediately begins having migraines and dreams of the “fucked up” variety… not to mention the dark figure that seems to permeate the entire structure… a structure that naturally… or is that preternaturally, played host to arcane rites and murder! The Baylock Residence is an effective lil’ slice of period piece horror biz. You got your classic Gothic tropes; the ol’ dark house, a woman secluded from the outside world, and of course, supernatural goings-on… and all are stirred in a petulant pot to

Movie Review: The Campus is a Fantastic Throwback to Italian Horror Cinema!

As The Campus begins, an archaeology expedition unleashes Satan (realized in damn fine practical glory) from his underground prison. Well apparently the leader of that lil’ expidition made a deal with ol’ Scratch, and after he dies, his estranged daughter Morgan is left hangin’ in the breeze to make good on the balance of the deal. How does this affect her everyday life? For starters she’s menaced by dudes in bizarre masks who make odd clicking sounds and try to murder here every damn second. They actually succeed and ol’ Morgy is brought back to life…only to die and come back time and again with each resurrection taking another piece of her essence. Can Morgan end the curse and square off with the Devil before she completely forfeits her soul? The Campus is one hell of a fun time in the ol’ horror biz! It’s loaded with practical effects (including monster suits and gallons o’ gooey gore), great occult overtones,

The Real Winchester House

If you’ve seen the trailer for the upcoming film Winchester you’re probably one of two people, you’re familiar with the Winchester House or you’re not. If you’re the latter, I got you covered, here we go. Yes, the Winchester House is a real location where you can visit but before we do let’s go back to its origins. In 1866 Oliver Winchester made his mark in the world by manufacturing the model 1866 repeating rifle that we always see in old western movies and TV shows. With the popularity of Winchester’s repeating rifles that were being used by both civilians and the military, Oliver was the 19th century’s version of Tony Stark, made his fortune by designing, manufacturing, and selling rifles to anyone who would pay. The Winchester Repeating Arms Company eventually was headed by Oliver’s only son William after his death in December of 1880. Calamity soon struck the family again when three months later, William died from Tuberculosis

Movie Review: The Devil’s Well is Well Worth Dipping Into!

The Devil’s Well concerns the misadventures of a husband and wife paranormal investigation team that arrive in a small town to investigate a hotspot called The Devil’s Well (‘natch). Well the wife of the duo, Karla, goes missing, and the chief suspect is of course her husband Bryan is suspecto numero uno (I’m a cunning linguist my fiends). Presented in documentary format (with a nice variety of interviews, camera footage, news reports etc.), we get to learn all the facts of the case including that the victim’s family was morally opposed to Karla’s work with the supernatural. Soon we learn that the well, located in a basement of all places, is a rumored portal to hell with a long and sordid past, and our heroes begin an investigation which leads to Karla’s disappearance. Flash forward a year, and a new party, including Bryan, return to the arcane abode to attempt to find ol’ Karla…and of course they find so much

Movie Review: House of Salem is a Demonic Dwelling Worth Visiting!

A young dude is put to bed by his smoke show of a babysitter and proceeds to have a series of nightmarish visions that resemble The Wicker Man if it was directed by Clive Barker…most likely because he ditches his meds before takin’ the one way express to nighty-night junction…or so it seems. Then some punks dressed as clowns kidnap the lad (who’s name is Josh), and so House of Salem begins proper. While the story begins with what seems like a simple kidnapping, things soon are revealed to be so much more, as our gang of big top hoodlums find they were duped into kidnapping young Josh by some sinister satanists who want to orchestrate a revoltin’ ritual involving that hoary ol’ chestnut; human sacrifice within the walls of the safe house (a home with a storied history of Satanic shenanigans). Before you know it, our hooligan heroes are up to their arses in hellish goings-on that they are
