Movie Review: Death of a Vlogger (2019)

YouTube vlogger Graham (Graham Hughes, who also wrote and directed this putrid picture) is having a bit of a slump, as his ha-ha vids are pretty much tits up as far as his viewership is concerned. Lucky for him, he captures one of those paranormal events that are all the rage with blonde women between the ages of 23 and 47, and broadcasts it for all of the world to see! Graham continues to record his eerie existence, but while most vicious viewers eat this supernatural shit up with a sinister spoon, there are those that find Graham’s new material a lil’ bit hard to swallow and set off to prove that this new arcane approach is a load of bollox! Comprised of a heady blend of found footage and faux documentary, Death of a Vlogger presents the full spectrum of paranormal activity, to those that desire to debunk said events… and all points in-between, in a fantastically immersive bit

Blu-ray Review: Ghost Ship (2002)

Back in 1962, pleasure cruise ship the Antonia Graza has nearly it’s entire occupancy scissored in two by a seemingly freak accident involving a broken cable. Flash forward to the modern age, and a group of rough n’ tumble salvagers lead by the no-bullshit Murphy (Gabriel Byrne) catch wind of the ship just floatin’ out on the Bearing Sea just waiting to be plundered! Once on board, our heroes soon find they are up to their assholes in supernatural goings-on, and the ghosts that now inhabit the vessel are none-to-eager to give up their secrets! While the story isn’t going to set the wicked world ablaze with it’s originality (though credit where credit is due, the sequence where we discover the truth behind the ghost ship is top-notch indeed), Ghost Ship has plenty of things in it’s favor. Chief among them is the absolutely top-notch set design, with the titular location being fully realized, and completely (and fittingly) off-putting with

Short Film Review: #NotAllGhosts (2020)

A woman (Amy Ciupek) debates how to eject the toxic dude in her life which isn’t going to be easy considering he’s a rather nasty tempered, abusive, ghost! Filmed with the new Optical Radiance technology that makes film color look vintage without any post-production color correction (read more about the process right here), #NotAllGhosts looks like a million beastly bucks for sure, with bright, eye-popping color… but that isn’t all the visual splendor this bite-sized trip into our beloved horror biz has to offer! You know that ghoulish guest I mentioned up yonder? Well the visual representation of said spirit is a psychotronic fever dream involving, but not limited to, bubbles, possessed televisions, skeletons, smoke, and haunted photographs that reveal private details of how our heroine spends her down time. Speaking of said heroine, Amy Ciupek (who also starred in Distiller, which was directed by this film’s director Andy Schroeder) is pretty damn fantastic as our pseudo-fifties housewife character, and

Movie Review: SLAXX (2020)

Ol’ Libby (Romane Denis) is happier than a clam in pigshit (of course as everyone knows, that is pretty damn happy) to be a new employee of an ultra-swank clothing store that is filled with plenty of those pretentious-ass types we all know and loathe. Anyway, one of those aforementioned asses steals a pair of jeans, puts them on, and before you can say “Ooh la la Sasson” she’s pinched in two by that ghoulish garment… and those putrid pants Hoover-up the red sauce left behind with the quickness! You see those sinister slacks are alive and hellbent on creating some serious employee turnover; and it’s up to Libby and her co-worker Shruti (Sehar Bhojani) to try and appease those terror trousers before the entire staff is devoured! Man-oh-man, Slaxx is a nice big slice of ridiculousness and it’s pretty damn glorious let me tell you cats n’ creeps! Director Elza Kephart, who also co-wrote this fright flick along with

Blu-ray Review: Aenigma (1987)

As with most films, Lucio Fulci’s Aenigma begins with two friends helping their pal, Kathy (Milijana Zirojevic), get gussied up for a date as a theme song featuring the “not quite Air Supply” stylings of Douglas Meakin (Head Over Heels by name, though the credits are sure it’s Head Over Meels… missed it by that much) gives us a yacht rock punch right to the ol’ hairy beanbag. Well, the joke’s on her as seemingly the entire student body of St. Mary’s College (her “friends” included) laugh their asses off as the sounds of her getting hot n’ heavy with her date are broadcast for all to hear. Long story short, she bolts, is accidentally hit by a car, and rendered comatose. Enter: Eva Gordon (Lara Lamberti), a new student at the university mentioned up yonder that Kathy attended before Sex Noise Scandal ’87 took her motor skills away. Guess what? Kathy is still attending the school as she has

4K Ultra HD Review: The New York Ripper (1982) and The House by the Cemetery (1981)

Those fine fiends over at Blue Underground are set to release their next wave of 4K Ultra goodness with two of Italy’s legendary fright flicks The New York Ripper (1982) and House by the Cemetery (1981)! Let’s let ‘er rip with the Ripper first! A dog discovers a severed hand in ol’ Manhattan town, and because this isn’t a Hanna-Barbera cartoon doesn’t immediately take on solving the murder mystery. Nope, that task falls on the world weary, prostitute fuckin’ shoulders of Lt. Fred Williams (Jack Hedley) who joins forces with psychoanalyst Dr. Paul Davis (Paolo Malco) to try and solve the case…and their asses better make like Sherlock Holmes toot-fucking-sweet ‘cuz the body count is getting rather high, as our duck-quacking psychopath carves up the ladies of The Big Apple like a Thanksgiving turkey! Holy hell is this one full-on sleazy, gory masterpiece boils n’ ghouls! Under he steady hand of maestro of mayhem, the legendary Lucio Fulci (who naturally

Blu-ray Review: Jess Franco’s Shining Sex (1977)

Shining Sex begins the only way it could; with a whistling Lina Romay dabbin’ at a photo of a dude with his schlong out with an eye shadow brush. Well, turns out Romay… or rather her character Cynthia is an exotic dancer that performs some sort of grease and gold plastered interpretive dance; the eponymous Shining Sex… a heady combo of pubic area razor burn, baffling close-ups, and shag carpeting that is guaranteed to have the audience scratching their heads as well as their crotches. After that showstopper, Cynthia is whisked away to the plush roof-top penthouse of Alpha (Evelyne Scott), where she immediately begins having sex with the lady of the manor… oh, and in a story ripped from today’s headlines; Alpha is an alien from another dimension with telepathic abilities, as one does. So what is Alpha up to? Mostly sitting around with her naked Lou Reed lookin’ man-servant, Andros (Raymond Hardy)… oh, and weaponizing our heroine’s vagina

Blu-ray Review: The Beast Must Die (1974)

Let me tell you cats n’ creeps, when a movie begins and my eerie earholes are presented with what sounds like porno score raunchiness mixed with the incidental music from the Batman show from the ’60s I know I’m going to get plenty of werewolf action… or maybe just bushels of pubes, either way it’s going to be a hair-raisin’ good time! A millionaire with waaaaay the fuck too much time on his hands gets a wild hair (too soon?) up his ass to invite a group of folks to his estate (which is rigged for recording, even on the sprawling grounds of the property) inform them that one of the gang is a werewolf, and when discovered, that person must be executed. The fact (almost) everyone doesn’t immediately leave and actually believes this preposterous nonsense like a stone cold fact is reason number one that I love The Beast Must Die… Another reason to love this one is the
