Shudder, AMC Networks’ premium streaming service for horror, thriller and the supernatural, announced today that it has acquired all rights in its territories to writer-director Joko Anwar’s hit horror film Impetigore (aka Perempuan Tanah Jahanam) which had its international premiere at Sundance after a smash run in Anwar’s home country of Indonesia, where it was the fifth highest-grossing release of 2019. In the film, Maya with her best friend, Dini, tries to survive in a city without a family. She realized that she might inherit a property from her rich family. Maya returns to the village with Dini and unaware of the danger was waiting for her. Joko Anwar is a master of modern horror, and Satan’s Slaves is one of the most loved — and scariest — movies on Shudder. We couldn’t wait to work with him again and are thrilled to share his scary, visceral and darkly sinister Impetigore with Shudder members,” said Craig Engler, Shudder’s General Manager.

Movie Review: Satan’s Slaves (2017)

Pengabdi Setan, or Satan’s Slaves (the title of both this film and the original 1982 film upon which it is based) concerns a cash strapped Indonesian family who suffers the loss of the matriarch of the clan. Upon her death, the family is left with a lingering debt due in part to having had to pay out the ass for medicine for her preternatural (and mega-creepy) illness. To alleviate that financial burden, Daddy Dearest heads off to the city to find a way to make money leaving his four children home alone. Can our young heroes survive the supernatural’s invasion into their lives (including the aforementioned cult and ghosts, as well
