Petition To Halt Release Of ‘Slender Man’ Movie Gains Momentum

A new online petition is calling for SONY Studios to halt the release of their upcoming horror movie Slender Man citing the incident that made headlines back in 2014 when Anissa Weier and Morgan Geyser, both 12 years old at the time, tried to murder a friend and fellow classmate, Payton Leutner also age 12. The motive behind the attack that stunned their hometown of Waukesha, Wisconsin was that they wanted to become “proxies” to the fictional character Slender Man and prove their loyalty to him so their families will be spared by him. One of the film’s biggest critics and is said to have signed the petition himself is Anissa Weier’s father who calls the film “extremely distasteful” due to the fact that three families have been affected by this fictional character. ‘Slender Man’ Stalks The New Terrifying Trailer From Sony

The first official teaser poster and trailer for Sony Screen Gems’ Slender Man has arrived. In the trailer, we see a hunt for a missing child, a suicide, and an urban legend stalk the woods. While we can’t tell much about the appearance of the creepypasta-inspired-entity from the poster, we all know that Slender Man is tall and thin with long, slender limbs. His legend became common knowledge when two 12-year-old girls brutally stabbed their friend in his name. The film from director Sylvain White stars Joey King, Julia Goldani Telles, Annalise Basso, Jaz Sinclair, Talitha Bateman, and Alex Fitzalan. David Birke and Victor Surge penned the script. Slender Man will arrive in theaters on May 18, 2018, from Sony. Let’s be honest, the trailer looks fantastic.

Jury Finds Slender Man Attacker Not Guilty Due To Mental Illness

Back in 2014, two 12-year-old Milwaukee girls committed an unthinkable crime that rocked the nation. The girls stabbed their friend Payton Geyser 19 times after luring her into woods. The victim somehow found the strength to drag herself onto a bicycle path where a passing bicyclist found her. Luckily, Geyser survived the ordeal. The reason the girls gave for committing the heinous act, they did it to win favor with the character Slender Man, a figure who was born in a Creepypasta story by Eric Knudsen. After 3 years one of the girls, Anissa Weier, has finally had her day in court where she plead guilty to attempted second-degree intentional homicide. The verdict came down that Weier will avoid prison. Instead, she will be committed to a mental hospital where she will wait out her 3-year sentence. Slenderman – The Modern Terror

A simple contest on June 10, 2009 by the internet forum Something Awful created a modern and unique monster. The contest challenged people to take everyday photographs and make them appear paranormal. Complete with comments from faux eye –witnesses, forum poster Victor Surge used images of groups of children and inserted a man. This man was tall, thin, white-faced and wearing a dark suit with a red tie. As this man stood ominously over the children, a phenomenon was born. Slenderman was not developed from ancient myths, or fairy tales. He is not found in a book and merely brought to life via media or film. This man is a wonderful piece of modern folk-lore. Generations from now, Slenderman will be included in the cannon of horror along with gremlins, trolls, the boogieman and everything else that goes bump in the night. We reported back in January that HBO, capitalizing on the current obsession with true crime documentaries like Netflix’s Making a Murderer, would soon release a dark documentary of there own titled Beware the Slenderman, from director Irene Taylor. Today, the television premiere date has finally been revealed as January 23, 2017 on HBO. Beware the Slenderman, set to have a special screening at DOC NYC this weekend, delves into the legend of Slenderman and the case of Morgan Geyser and Anissa Weier, two 12- year-old Wisconsin girls, and their brutal attempted murder of their friend and classmate, Payton Leutner, another 12-year-old girl. Even if you have never delved into the dark world of Creepypasta, you will recognize the name of the pale skinned, faceless legend, Slender Man. The original Slender Man legend was created by Something Awful forum’s user Eric Knudsen – under the name Victor Surge – while entering a contest for supernatural photography in 2009. As part of his submission he gave a backstory to his mysterious subject, with no idea how quickly the legend would spread. Screen Gems will soon bring the Slender Man to life in a new film according to ComicBook.com. The film, set to begin filming this Fall and see release in the Fall of next year, will be penned by David Birke (13 Sins).
