Jordan Peele made his directorial debut with the socially conscious film Get Out. Today, via his social media sites, Peele announced the title of its successor, Us. Sources told Variety that Lupita Nyong’o (Black Panther) and Elisabeth Moss (The Handmaid’s Tale) are in negotiations for two of the lead roles. Us will be the first project under his and his company Monkeypaw Productions’ first-look deal with Universal Pictures. The deal was inked following its box office run that landed it the number one spot on most movie lists and glowing reviews from critics and viewers alike. Peele even scored an Oscar nomination for best original screenplay. While the plot is still being kept under wraps, we do know that the film will open in theaters in March of 2019. Peele will both write and direct Us, as well as produce it under his Monkeypaw Productions banner. Sean McKittrick and Jason Blum will also produce. With the success of Jordan Peele’s genre debut feature Get Out, it was no surprise that he stated back in March that he announced he has plans for a series of social thrillers. THR is reporting that Peele has signed a two-year, first-look deal with Universal. As part of that deal, Universal has snagged the rights to Peele’s next project which he will write, direct and produce. Part of the deal calls for Peele to produce a range of projects, a key part of the agreement is for him to produce small budget films which will reunite Peele with Blumhouse’s Jason Blum with the goal of giving a voice to indie filmmakers. I am thrilled to continue the work we started together on Get Out – pushing the boundaries of storytelling, not only on the film but with all of Monkeypaw’s future projects.” Peele said. THR also stated that Peele’s next film will have a budget of around $25 million,
