Movie Review: ‘The Fanatic’ Will Leave You Asking WTF Did I Just Watch?

The Fanatic…where do I start? John Travolta stars as “Moose”, an autistic man who collects autographs and movie memorabilia. Obsessed with actor Hunter Dubar (Devon Sawa), “Moose” will stop at nothing to get close to his favorite actor. Travolta, rocking a terrible mullet, mimics what I assume he thinks is the way an autistic man would talk and act. Within the first few minutes I felt gross just for watching it. Now, don’t get me wrong, it’s not the fact that Travolta impersonates an autistic person, it’s the way that he did it. It just feels off and it is extremely one dimensional. For example, Leonardo Di Caprio in What’s Eating Gilbert Grape was brilliant. That’s how that’s done. Written and directed by Fred Durst (yes, that Fred Durst, the one from Limp Bizkit) the movie left me wondering what Durst’s original vision was and if this is close. This June John Travolta Takes Stalking To A Disturbing Level in ‘The Fanatic’

Screen legend John Travolta (The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story, Pulp Fiction) stars in writer-director and Limp Bizkit frontman Fred Durst‘s thriller The Fanatic. In the film, Moose (Travolta), a celebrity-obsessed fan who feels slighted by his favorite movie star at an autograph convention. He quickly embarks on an unhinged quest to get a response, leading to a home invasion and a very long night that changes both men irreparably. Devon Sawa (Final Destination) and Ana Golja (Degrassi: Next Class) also star in The Fanatic, a tense and suspenseful thriller that boasts a commanding central performance from Travolta. Edgar Wright’s ‘Last Night In Soho’ Has Been Delayed

Edgar Wright, the director behind Shaun of the Dead and Baby Driver, has returned to the horror genre for his new film Last Night in Soho was originally set to premiere this September. Unfortunately, like many movies affected by the Coronavirus, the film has now been pulled from the schedule. Thomasin McKenzie’s and Glass’ Anya Taylor-Joy star in the film that centers on “a young girl, passionate in fashion design, is mysteriously able to enter the 1960s where she encounters her idol, a dazzling wannabe singer. But 1960s London is not what it seems, and time seems to fall apart with shady consequences.” Doctor Who’s Matt Smith, Michael Ajao (Attack the Block), Game of Thrones’ actress Diana Rigg, and Terence Stamp (Murder Mystery) also star. Hopefully a new release date for Last Night in Soho will be announced soon.

Dakota Johnson Joins Olivia Wilde’s Psychological Thriller ‘Don’t Worry Darling’

Suspiria star Dakota Johnson has joined the cast of director Olivia Wilde‘s (Booksmart) psychological thriller Don’t Worry Darling, Deadline reports. Johnson will star alongside Florence Pugh, Shia LaBeouf, and Chris Pine in the films about a 1950’s housewife whose reality begins to crack, revealing the disturbing truth underneath. Shane and Carey Van Dyke (The Silence) penned the original version of the script, with Katie Silberman writing it. Vertigo Entertainment’s Roy Lee (IT, The Ring) will produce along with Wilde and Silberman. Catherine Hardwicke is executive producing.
