Zombie (1979) – 4K UHD Blu-ray Review

Lucio Fulci’s seminal gut-muncher Zombie (or Zombi 2 as it is sometimes known, as in Italy it was released as a sequel to Romero’s Dawn of the Dead, which is known there as Zombi…confused yet boils n’ ghouls?!!) has always been a favorite of your’s cruelly, and before we even get into the review proper I will whole-heartedly state that every horror hound, zombie lover, and gore aficionado should have this fright flick in their creepy collection…no excuses! For those unfamiliar with the film, the plot goes like this; Journalist Peter West (Ian McCulloch) is called on to investigate a strange ship that drifted into the waters outside of Manhattan…a ship that seemingly contained flesh hungry zombies! Before long, Peter is joined by Anne Bowles (Tisa Farrow), the daughter of the boat’s owner, and the duo make for the Caribbean to investigate just what in the hell happened to Anne’s father. New George A. Romero Novel Surfaces: The Living Dead

On July 16, 2017, the horror genre said goodbye to one of the world’s most iconic filmmakers, George A. Romero. As fans mourned many came to the realization that we would never see another book or film from the godfather of the zombie genre. As three years passed, the world had no idea that a new body of work from Romero would surface. After the filmmaker’s death his widow and agent stumbled across a partially written book. After reading it, they reached out to New York Best Seller Daniel Kraus, the author who had teamed up with Guillermo del Toro to write both The Shape of Water and Trollhunters which both earned adaptations. Kraus set out to finish Romero’s novel The Living Dead. We asked Kraus about the process of properly capturing Romero’s vision. …studying all his films, screenplays, interviews, interviewing people who knew him, long talks with his wife, then reading critical analysis of his work. Finally, I got

University of Pittsburgh Acquires Daniel Kraus Papers As Part of the George A. Romero Collection

The University of Pittsburgh Library System is pleased to announce the acquisition of the papers of New York Times bestselling author Daniel Kraus as part of the George A. Romero Archival Collection, expanding the scope of the archive beyond the unique and comprehensive portrait of the filmmaking pioneer. The new collaboration will serve as a treasure trove for demonstrating Kraus’ creative process behind his novels and will also support research for both horror studies and children’s literature, another collecting strength of the Archives & Special Collections Department at the university. I’m the writer I am today because of George A. Romero,” says Kraus. “So it makes perfect sense to me that I follow his giant footsteps in placing my past work with the University of Pittsburgh. To be a part of the Horror Studies Archives is more than I could have dreamed as an elementary-school scribbler writing Nightmare on Elm Street fan-fiction in the 1980s.” The Daniel Kraus Archive documents

Traylor (Greyeyes), the tribal sheriff, must protect his son’s pregnant girlfriend, apocalyptic refugees, and reserve riffraff from the hordes of walking white corpses. “Jeff Barnaby is a First Nations filmmaker born on the Mi’gmaq reserve, his country. Quantum and his debut feature, the cult-hit, take place. He is the writer, director, editor, and composer of Blood Quantum, which opened TIFF’s Midnight Madness program in 2019 to both audience and critical acclaim. His films frequently cast from within the Indigenous community and paint a stark and scathing portrait of post-colonial Indigenous life and culture – in this case, painting it in blood.” Blood Quantum is produced by Quebec-based production company Prospector Films as well as John Christou & Robert Vroom,

Movie Review: Blood Quantum (2019)

Back ’round 1981, down on the Mi’gmaq tribe’s home turf of Red Crow, animals keep coming back from the dead. Enter: Sheriff Traylor (Michael Greyeyes) who has to deal with the ‘sitch first hand when he is tasked with putting a bullet into the pooch belonging to his ex-wife Joss (Elle-Máijá Tailfeathers)… which of course turns zombie right quick! Not content to just resurrect various and sundry animal types, this mysterious whatever soon has the same effect on the local Caucasian occasion (the natives are immune to the transformation). This causes an extra layer of static as our hero’s son Joseph (Forrest Goodluck) has a preggo white old lady named Charlie (Olivia Scriven). Time passes and the reservation becomes a fortified, post-apocalyptic style stronghold… but the hungry dead are definitely at their doorstep, and they want in like a mother fucker! Naturally various members of the tribe splinter and form their own allegiance, lead by a true psycho named Lysol

Movie Review: The Black Gate (2017)

Sarah (Jeanne Dessart) and David (Nicolas Couchet) are a couple of orphans what lived a hard knock life indeed! Their Uncle Simon (Michel Coste) put the murder biz on their parents, and they spent most of their lives separated at different orphanages. Oh, there’s another thing about ol’ sinister simon; he loves himself the black magic, and he sent Sarah one of those ghoulish grimoires all the rage with witches ages 13 – 45. Long story short, our heroes venture to their Uncle’s arcane abode, run afoul of a cadre of criminals, and all of these folks must contend with the literal hell that’s barfin’ forward out of the demonic doorway he just so happened to leave open! Picture it; Sicily: 1922… Jess Franco sits himself down, watches Phantasm and Evil Dead, smokes the fattest of fat ones, exhales and says: “I could make those films with one arm tied around Lina Romay’s back!” Suddenly a producer from Filmirage… no,
