Canadian stage and screen actor Douglas Rain who is known for his voiceover work has passed away Sunday evening of natural causes, he was 90.
Douglas Rain studied theatre in both Canada and England resulting in him performing in a variety of stage shows (mainly Shakespearian) as well as appearing on numerous television shows and TV movie adaptations of stage productions.
Douglas Rain is best known for his role of the self-aware shipboard A.I. HAL 9000 from “2001: A Space Odyssey” and reprised the role in the 1984 sequel “2010: The year we make Contact”. He’s also played the voice of an evil computer character in the sci-fi comedy “Sleeper”. His portrayal of HAL disturbed many as he does horrible things and says things that are troubling but as he does his voice is eerily calm.
