Back in September, we reported that Fede Alvarez (Evil Dead, Don’t Breathe) will be producing a new present-day incarnation of Tobe Hooper’s iconic movie The Texas Chainsaw Massacre for Legendary Pictures.

A week into production in Bulgaria, the film has a new director, replacing Ryan and Andy Tohill (The Dig). David Blue Garcia (Tejano) is taking the place of the Tohill brothers who have exited the movie due to creative differences. Filming will now begin again from scratch with the brothers’ footage being scrapped.

The cast of the movie includes Elsie Fisher (Eighth Grade), Sarah Yarkin (Happy Death Day 2U), Jacob Latimore (The Maze Runner), and Moe Dunford (“Vikings”).

Alvarez produces alongside Bad Hombre’s Rodolfo Sayagues and Kim Henkel, Ian Henkel, and Pat Cassidy who are producing under their Exurbia Films banner.

Legendary is hoping that the new Texas Chainsaw Massacre movie will be the beginning of a new franchise.
