The thought of spending the night in a haunted hotel would would terrify some people, but then there’s those people searching for a different kind of adventure. For the bravest of souls there will be a room for rent at the old Waverly Hills Sanatorium. That’s the most haunted hospital in the U.S., and it will soon be renting rooms.
The owners of the Kentucky hospital, Charlie and Tina Mattingly, have filed for building and zoning permits to turn the haunted building into a hotel, complete with paranormal tours through the grounds. The hotel will be a 120 room four star location. The building’s first floor will include a 3,000 square foot restaurant and a 8,500 square foot convention center. The next two floors will consist of 120 rooms. The fourth floor will house a museum and conference rooms. The grounds include 109 acres and various out buildings.
The Waverly Hills Sanatorium was once a Tuberculosis treatment center and was open from 1910 to 1962. Later the facility was reopened as a nursing home, which closed in 1982. It has remained closed, except for paranormal tours, since.
The number of claims of paranormal activity for Waverly Hills is off the charts, and the fact that over the years thousands suffered and died inside it’s walls gives it a major creepy vibe. Visitors and past staff of the hospital have made claims of everything from being touched, pushed, of things moving, hearing voices, and seeing shadows or full apparitions. Some have even caught events on film.
