Dario Argento
Recently there has been a big trend of movies being adapted for an international TV series. ‘Suspiria’ has now joined that list. ‘Suspiria’, a 1977 movie by Dario Argento, was based on the 1845 book titled “Suspiria De Profundis’ by Thomas De Quincey . A few years ago the film was in line to be remade, but legal issues stood in the way. ‘Suspiria’ was the first of Argento’s films (in a trilogy) that refers to “The Three Mothers”, a coven of witches. The other titles in the trilogy include ‘Inferno’ and ‘Mother of Tears’.
‘Suspiria’ tells the story of Suzy, an American ballet student, played by Jessica Harper, who joins a ballet academy in Germany. After a series of murders Suzy realizes that the academy is a front for something more, something sinister and supernatural.
The new series is titled ‘Suspiria De Profundis’. Aregento will be acting as an “artistic supervisor” for the series. The series will be set in London and Rome at the turn of the 20th century. Author De Quincey, the lead character, attempts to solve mysteries while exploring the psychological fantasies of the show’s villains, which is a far cry from the movie’s ballerina driven story. There is no word yet when the series will premier.
