Gerald Kargl’s 1983, slightly insane, horror movie ‘Angst’ aka ‘Schizophrenia’ will be re-released on DVD later this summer. For those of you who haven’t seen this serial killer flick, let me fill you in.
After serving time in prison for the murder of an elderly woman, a killer (played by Erwin Leder) with serious mommy issues, is released back into society. It is not long until he feels the urge to kill again. When he fails during the attempted murder of a cab driver, he flees the city. He finds his next victims when he discovers a secluded home , where a young woman is living disabled brother and her ailing mother. He takes the family hostage, taking out his frustration on the three.
‘Angst’ is not for everyone. It’s brutal and disturbing. It’s along the same lines as the movie ‘Henry’ but much more intense. At the time Gerald Kargl, the writer and director of ‘Angst’, believed so much in the movie that he invested every dime that he had into the project. The cast of ‘Angst’ includes Silvia Rabenreeither , Karin Springer, Edith Rosset, Rudolf Gotz and Robert Hunger-Buhler as the narrator. I should also mention that ‘Angst’ is based on a true story.
