Question: What is black and white and red all over? Answer: A kick-ass comic about the goatpocalypse!
2015 is the Year of the Goat according to the Chinese Zodiac and it may just be right.
The night that I recieved a copy of this book to review, a trending hashtag on Twitter was #AddGoatRuinAQuote. You may be able to ruin a quote by adding a goat, but if you add a whole bunch of goats to a horror/slasher comic about demonic possession, then you can’t go wrong. This book is proof of that. Now, I must admit that this book isn’t for everyone. Of course, I only say that because it is intended for mature audiences only.
The story starts off on a farm in the southern United States, when a black bird lands and seems to whisper into the ear of a goat. The goat then becomes possessed and is suddenly endowed with the ability to walk and even speak. The evil soon takes over other goats and they begin to attack any human that crosses their paths. This demonic epidemic soon spreads to Upstate New York in Amish country and back down to the backwoods of Mississippi, where the story really “heats up”.
This book will have you coming back for more, just like a fresh “farmers pie”. It leaves a lot of unanswered questions and a mystery to these black birds that must be solved. I am looking forward to finding out who or what is behind these birds and the source of their vile powers. I am also intrigued to find out who the stranger in San Pueblo is and what his relation to this scourge may be.
Year of the Goat is the creation of Tom Spellman, who serves as the writer. It also features the artwork of Rafael Chrestani along with John Redwall, who lettered and red-shaded the comic.
There is a variant cover available featuring artwork by Verry Wong and the coloring of Fahriza Kamaputra. (as shown below)
The comic started out on Kickstarter https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1891468611/year-of-the-goat where it was fully funded, as was their previous comic Time Stop. It is intended as an ongoing comic book series, but the goats need your help to continue their onslaught of terror.
