‘Universal Soldiers’ Director Set To Remake ‘Maniac Cop’

Producer Nicolas Winding Refn announced at Austin’s Fantastic Fest that a remake of 1988’s ‘Maniac Cop’ is now in the works and John Hyams is set to direct. Hyams has quite a bit of experience when it comes to engineered characters, he directed two of the films from the ‘Universal Soldier’ franchise.



In ‘Maniac Cop’ an ex police officer has been turned into a killing machine and is killing people on the streets. Jack Forest finds himself  the main suspect for the killings, but detective Frank McCrae doesn’t believe it. Together Forrest, his girlfriend and Detective McCrae set out to find the real killer before he can strike again. The original cast includes Bruce Campbell, Tom Atkins, Laurene Landon, Robert Z’Dar, and Richard Roundtree and was directed by William Lustig.
