‘The Boy’ follows a nanny (Cohan) that is hired to look after an unconventional couple’s life like doll. The couple uses the doll to help them cope with the death of their young son or is it really that simple? The doll is treated as if it was actually their son, he’s fed, read to and tucked in, but there are rules that must be followed. As if the situation wasn’t bizarre enough already, Cohan’s character soon comes to believe that the doll may be more than just life like, it might actually be alive.
I must say, the trailer is creepy and dark and for someone, like me, that hates dolls (thanks a lot Child’s Play) the movie is liable to leave you with nightmares. Move over Annabelle, there’s a new, more frightening doll in town. The film stars Jim Norton, Diana Hardcastle, Rupert Evans, Ben Robson, Javier Botet and James Russell, along side Cohan. ‘The Boy’ was directed by William Brent Bell, who directed 2012’s ‘The Devil Inside’, and was written by Stacey Menear.
