Alex Garland’s latest project, titled Annihilation, is now in pre-production. Jane the Virgin actress Gina Rodriguez is eyeing the lead role in the film, and will star along side Natalie Portman.
Annihilation is based on the novel by Jeff VanderMeer, by the same name. The film follows a group of women on a dangerous mission, to Area X, where the laws of nature do not apply. The previous teams have suffered severe health problems, suicides and insanity.
Garland is best known as the screen writer for 28 Days Later and 28 Weeks Later. He made his directorial debut with 2014’s sci-fi thriller Ex Machina. He will serve as both writer and director for Annihilation, which will begin filming in the spring of 2016.
