It was just a matter of time before Gremlins was added to the list of new remakes, or so we thought. Zach Galligan, who played the role of Billy in the original two films, announced that the new Gremlins film will actually be a sequel, not a remake.
Galligan told an audience at a recent screening of the 1984 film “It’s not going to be a reboot. It will not be a remake in any way, shape or form. Chris Columbus has come out and said that the first film is very near and dear to his heart and as long as he is alive it will never be remade. So the only thing they will be – and apparently are going to be – doing is something along the lines of like Jurassic World, where it will be 30 years later.”
There is no word yet if Galligan will be returning for the new film. Personally, I think it would be a great way to tie the the film to the originals. The director has not been announced, but we do know that Carl Ellsworth (Disturbia, The Last House on the Left) will be penning the screenplay.
