With Guillermo del Toro not returning to direct Pacific Rim 2 we were left wondering what he was planning. News came via Variety that del Toro’s next project is a supernatural thriller. The film has been described as a “mysterious and magical journey set against the backdrop of Cold War-era America circa 1963 with an otherwordly love story at the center of it.”
The currently untitled film was written by del toro. He will also be directing and producing the project. Octavia Spencer (Insurgent, The Help) is currently in talks to star in the film, which will begin production this August.
Del Toro has several other upcoming films including The Haunted Mansion, Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark, Frankenstein, Fantastic Voyage, Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde and At the Mountains of Madness.
