After nearly a week theories and clues have been flooding social media to the identity of Negan’s victim. I’ve gathered the best clues and theories from internet so you can judge for yourself.
The Leaked Audio
A leaked audio file surfaced just before the finale. A YouTube user slowed down the clip and added caption. It appears to reveal that Maggie is screaming for Glenn. Don’t make up your mind just yet, there’s a lot more clues to go through.
The Leaked Film Footage
A rough video was leaked of the scene being filmed from the victim’s point of view. If you look closely at the right side of the video you will see the side view of Negan swinging on his victim. You can see the silhouette of a head, that looks a lot like Glenn’s. This could mean one of two things, one it’ Glenn. Or two, the victim is sitting next to Glenn.
The POV Angle
The POV was not only used in the last moments of finale, but was used throughout the episode. At first all we see are glimpses of lights. Just before Daryl, Michonne, Rosita, and Glenn are unloaded from the truck we see it used again. This time we see the doors opening and the back of Daryl’s head. Then we see Daryl get out first, followed by Michonne and Rosita, then Glenn get out last.
The Comic
We all know that Glenn is killed by Negan in the comic. It is true, Robert Kirkman, Greg Nicotro and Scott Gimple have all said that what happens in the comic doesn’t necessarily mean that that’s what happens in the show. But that could just be a ploy to throw us off.
Who It Is Not
We know it’s not Rick, or Carl. Carol, Morgan, Jesus, Gabriel, Enid and Judith aren’t there. And Aaron, Sasha, Eugene,Tara and Rosita’s characters aren’t important enough to the story at this point for Negan to kill, and Maggie is too sick to be of interest for Negan. So, that leaves Abraham, Daryl, Michonne and Glenn.
The Quotes
Right before he swing Negan says “Anybody moves, anybody says anything, cut the boy’s other eye out and feed it to his father…” That proves it is not Rick or Carl.
After the first swing of Lucille Negan says “Oh, look at that! Taking it like a champ.” It’s not common for a man to refer to a woman as “champ”. That makes it likely to be Glenn, Daryl or Abraham. With Daryl in the shape he’s in, I doubt he could “take it like a champ”. He looks like a light wind could push him over. So, we’re down to Glenn and Abraham.
Foreshadowing
We can’t ignore all of the foreshadowing in the last couple of episodes, including Glenn finding Negan’s photo board of victims. There’s also Rick’s conversation with Maggie in the RV where he told her that no matter what happens “we can get though it together”. And of course any time someone is truly happy they are killed off.
After looking at everything, you have to admit one name stands out above all others, Glenn. Glenn has had so many close calls, maybe his luck has finally run out. I will admit that Daryl and Abraham are still on my list of possible victims, but I’m leaning towards Glenn. I guess we’ll have to wait till October to find out for sure. In the mean time, you can rewatch the entire season, it will be available on Blu-ray and DVD this summer.
