When Sony took the stage at this week’s CinemaCon, a series of logos for upcoming projects played on a screen. Besides Insidious: Chapter 4, another logo grabbed the attention of horror fans, the logo for Zombieland 2. After years of waiting and wondering if we’d ever get the sequel to 2009’s zombie hit, it seems that the film is finally underway.
Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick,will be penning the script for Zombieland 2. The men are not new to the franchise, they wrote the scripts for the Zombieland series on Amazon.
There is no word yet if any of the original cast will return for another around of zombie fighting fun. At this point that’s all we know. But after seven years, it is the only concrete news we’ve actually heard. And this time it really seems to happening. It’s time for Sony to “Nut up, or shut up.”, as Tallahassee would say.
The original film starred Woody Harrelson, Jesse Eisenberg, Emma Stone and Abigail Breslin, with cameos by Bill Murray and Amber Heard. It follows a group of strangers who meet on the road during the zombie apocalypse. They band together and become like a family. There are as many funny moment in Zombieland as there are zombies. No other horror movie has spawned so many great one-liners.
