It has been a while since any news about the upcoming sequel to World War Z  has surfaced. Today we can report the film has now entered into preproduction and is preparing to begin filming late this summer.

WWZ 2 will follow United Nations Investigator Gerry Lane, played by Brad Pitt, and the continued fight to rid the world of the zombie plague.

The original director, J. A. Banyon, stepped away from the project last year and the new director for WWZ 2 has yet to be announced. But it sounds like the new director, who ever he or she might be, is already in negotiations. The film also got a new writer, Dennis Kelly, who has taken over for Steve Knight.

WWZ was very different from most of the zombie movies of 2013. Not only was it an outbreak film, the zombies were fast paced adding extra danger for the characters. During Gerry’s travels he learned the key to survival. If you are ill, the zombies would let you move right past them unharmed. This allowed people in the first film to start fighting back.

WWZ 2 is scheduled to arrive in theaters on June 9, 2017. We will post an update when we know more.
