Back in 1983 we witnessed a character named Angela (Felissa Rose) reveal a big (I don’t know if big is the right word) secrete in a scene that shocked the hell out of horror fans, I’m talking about ‘Sleepaway Camp’. The slasher flick spawned four sequels and is now about to add another film to the franchise.
Before you jump the gun and assume it’s a reboot/remake, I should tell you that it will be a direct sequel to the original film. Back in 2013 former New Line executive Jeff Katz obtained the rights. He will be producing the sequel with the franchise’s creator and writer Robert Hiltzik.
Katz recently spoke about the project on The Movie Crypt podcast. He explained that the new film will reveal what Angela has been in a sanitarium all these years. In the sequel she escapes and returns to Camp Arawak. Katz hopes that Rose will reprise her role as Angela. Let’s be honest, if Rose doesn’t sign on, the film just won’t be right.
You resolve her character while setting up the events of the new movie, which are tied directly to her and in a way which allows you to honor the original but spin off in an entirely new direction.” Katz said about Rose’s character.
There is no word yet who will direct or who the cast will be. We will let you know when we learn more.
