When it comes to hillbilly slasher films, like ‘Wrong Turn’, the south is the usual the setting. A new horror film,  ‘Killbillies’, is shaking up that tradition. ‘Killbillies’, also known as ‘Idyll’, is the first horror film from the country of Slovenia, the coastal country bordering Italy and the Adriatic Sea.

The film centers on a group of fashionistas heading to a photo shoot in the country side. What started out as a beautiful day quickly turns to terror when the women are attached by physically deformed hillbillies and kidnapped.

Nina Ivanisin, Nika Rozman, Manca Ogorevc, Sabastian Cavazza, Lotos Vincenc Šparovec and Jurij Drevenšek, star in this film about survival, from writer-director Tomaz Gorkic.

From the Press Release:

October 25th, 2016 – Philadelphia, PA – Proving that the American South does not hold a monopoly on sexually depraved, bloodthirsty hillbillies, Killbilllies (aka: Idyll,Idila) depicts a harrowing tale of abduction, violence and hoped-for survival; this is Slovenia’s first ever horror movie.

In the story, a group of fashionistas from the city, including models Zina (Nina Ivanisin) and Mia (Nika Rozman), make-up artist Dragica (Manca Ogorevc) and photographer Blitcz (Sebastian Cavazza), begin to shoot on an idyllic countryside hilltop. But soon, two physically deformed psychopathic countrymen approach them and quickly attack. After the terrified group finds themselves chained in a basement and awaiting their gruesome fate, they decide they must fight no matter what the odds.

A wild, bloody, taut clash ensues between urban and rural, women and men, between savages and civilized man. A fresh, sadistic take on such classics as The Hills Have Eyes and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre!

‘Killbillies’ is now out on DVD, VOD, and Streaming from Artsploitation Films.
