After many years, ‘The Crow’ reboot is still struggling to take flight. Davis Films, in conjunction with Highland Film Group and Electric Shadow have just acquired the rights to develop the reboot, whose title is ‘The Crow Reborn’.
Corin Hardy (The Hollow) is still attached to direct the reboot and plans to begin filming early next year. Reportedly, ‘Aquaman’ star Jason Mamoa is in talks to play the role of the film’s lead character, Eric Draven, but no formal announcement has been made. Momoa has posted on social media in the recent past hinting that he will play the part.
In the original film, Brandon Lee played Erik Draven who was killed alongside his fiancee on “Devil’s Night”. Draven returned to the world of the living to exact revenge with the help of a crow. Lee, the son of martial arts master Bruce Lee, was killed on the set in a horrible accident with a prop.
There have been many people attached to reboots of the 1994 classic, but each time production falls apart. Maybe it is the universe’s way of telling Hollywood that the film should never be remade/rebooted. It is rare, but on occasion a perfect film comes along. ‘The Crow’ is one of those. I’m a huge Mamoa fan, don’t get me wrong. But in my opinion no one could ever play Eric Draven better than Lee. No one could make a film to top it.
