Fans have been eagerly awaiting the premiere of Netflix’s upcoming adaption, Death Note, from director Adam Wingard (You’re Next). The teaser trailer was released moments ago and I have to say, it looks awesome. They also have now announced the summer release date.
Based on the well known Japanese manga from Tsugumi Ohba and Takeshi Obata, Willem Defoe (The Great Wall, John Wick, Boondock Saints) stars as Ryuk the Shinigami (God of Death). Nat Wolff plays the lead role of Light. Margaret Qualley, Shea Whigham, Paul Nakauchi, and Keith Stanfield of the award winning series ‘Atlanta’, co-star.
Death Note follows Light Turner, a bright student who stumbles across a mystical notebook that has the power to kill any person whose name he writes in it. Light decides to launch a secret crusade to rid the streets of criminals. Soon, the student-turned-vigilante finds himself pursued by a famous detective known only as “L”.
Death Note is produced by Roy Lee, Dan Lin, Masi Oka and Jason Hoffs. Johnathan Eirich, Mirir Yoon Branden Ferguson, and John Powers Middleton are serving as executive producers.
Death Note will premiere on Netflix’s streaming service on August 25, 2017.
