Earlier this year J. J. Abrams surprised fans with a sequel to 2008’s found-footage alien film Cloverfield, titled 10 Cloverfield Lane. The film was huge success, renewing interest in the franchise for fans. We reported in late October that Abrams’ third film of the franchise, titled God Particle, had quietly entered production.
Originally, the film was set to release on February 24, 2017, but that day came and went. Today, news has come that God Particle has a new release date, October 27, 2017, which was confirmed at the CinemaCon in Las Vegas.
In the God Particle a team of astronauts make a shocking discovery and end up fighting for survival in what is being described as an “altered reality”.
David Oyelowo stars alongside John Krasinski, Daniel Brühl, Gug Mbtha-Raw, Ziyi Zhang, Elizabeth Debicki, and Chris O’Dowd. J.J. Abrams will produce. Julis Onah (The Girl Is In Trouble) will be directing from the script penned by Oren Uziel (Freaks of Nature, Mortal Kombat, 22 Jump Street).
There are now rumors that the next film of the Cloverfield franchise will soon begin production and that film is J.J. Abram’s Overlord.
In the film, a group of American paratroopers are dropped behind enemy lines to carry out a mission crucial to the invasion’s success on the eve of D-Day, but as they approach their target, they begin to realize there is more going on in this Nazi-occupied village than a simple military operation. They find themselves fighting against supernatural forces, part of a Nazi experiment.
Filming is set to start this May in the UK. Casting has already begun. Billy Ray penned the script, based off of a shared idea with Abrams. Abrams who will co-produce with Lindsey Weber.
