‘We the Happy Few’ is the latest genre games to be getting a full feature length film adaption. Compulsion Games will be teaming up with Gold Circle Entertainment and dj2 for the film version of the creepy game, Variety reports.
Head developer, Guillaume Provost said: “Dmitri, Stephan, and Dan approached us enthusiastically with real solid ideas about how to adapt our game to film while retaining its menace, dark humor, and central themes.”
The first person perspective game is set in the fictional English city of Wellington Wells, a dystopian, retro, drug-fueled society following World War II and is on the verge of collapse in the 1960’s. Residents of the city, in attempt to forget the horrors they have witnessed, are hooked on a drug called “Joy” that induces happiness, but at the same time leaves them easily controlled and manipulated. In the game players choose one of three characters, who must live long enough to complete an important task and escape the city before society collapses.
The game is still in development, but Compulsion Games promises that the finished version will be out before the movie is released. I did mention that the game is creepy as hell, didn’t I? Because it is. Check out 15 minutes of game play, via IGN.
