Last night’s season finale of The walking Dead was filled with action, betrayal, and sacrifice. The war has begun. Alexandria, Hilltop, the Kingdom and the Saviors are now locked into a fight for survival.
The finale began with Sasha dreaming of Maggie. After climbing into the coffin she begins listening to music before taking the poisoned pill and falling asleep inside a coffin. In a dream she is reunited with Abraham.

Negan pulled up to the gates of Alexandria with Eugene. Eugene made it clear that he is now “Negan”. Negan gives the order and his men pull out a casket with Sasha inside, but didn’t know that she had taken her own life. When he opens the top Sasha lunges out, as a walker. Jadis turns her gun on Rick, telling him that she made a better deal with Negan. Moments later, she shots him and pushes him off the landing. Luckily, it only grazed his side.

We see Daryl, Rick, Rosita, Tara and Michonne with Dwight. Most of them wanted to kill him, but Daryl let him live. Dwight tells the group what Negan is planning and that the Saviors are coming and they let him go.

Jadis takes Rick to Negan who has Carl on his knees. Suddenly we hear someone fall. Implying that Michonne had been thrown off a building by one of Jadis’ followers. Negan tells Rick that he has just lost someone he loved and that he is going to kill Carl and take Rick’s hands. Rick gives him a passionate speech telling Negan one day he will kill him. As Negan leans back with the bat over his head, Shiva pounces on the man behind him, giving Carl and Rick the chance to escape.

Rick finds Michonne sitting against a wall badly beaten, but alive. As gunshots ring out Negan, the Saviors, and Jadis and her people flee. The war has begun, Alexandria, Hilltop and the Kingdom have joined together.

Next, we see Aaron and Maggie find Sasha in the woods. With tears in her eyes, Maggie kills Sasha.

Negan asks Eugene how Sasha died and Eugen claims it was due to lack of oxygen, but it doesn’t seem Negan believes him. Negan then tells his people that they are going to war.

While the finale did have its share of action, it had more emotion. Sasha’s flashbacks drive home that Maggie and her baby are the future and must be protected at all costs.
While the finale was good, it did have its downfalls. Every time Carl was seen with a rifle he was looking through the scope with his blind eye. That also happened in the previous episode. The speech given by Rick to Negan was meant to make him look strong, it didn’t. If he would have fought to stay on his feet and refused to kneel, it would have been better.
Next season should be interesting. We haven’t seen a lot of action on the show in a long time. Hopefully The Walking Dead will have better CGI and someone watching to make sure the actors don’t make mistakes, like Carl and the rifle scope.
