We don’t often see unique genre films these days. Russia’s sci-fi thriller Dance to Death has an interesting plot that we haven’t seen before. How good it will be, now that is the question.
In post-apocalypse Moscow, young people are pit against each other in a fight to the death. Their weapon of choice? Dance moves. Competitors who lose are instantly killed by disintegration and converted into energy.
Yes, you read that right. Dance to Death is half dance movie, half thriller. Directed by Andrey Volgin, the film stars Agnia Ditkovskite, Denis Shvedov, and Evgeniy Mikheev.
Synopsis:
The old energy technologies, such as oil and coal, were lost decades ago during the nuclear war. But a new technology has been developed that converts the human body directly into energy, leaving behind only a flurry of gray ashes. In a sealed bunker in the post-apocalyptic ruins of Moscow, young people struggle against each other in a deadly dancing tournament. The winners will live. The losers will be consumed for energy to power the city.
While plot sounds a bit ridiculous, it seems to be a big budget film with a decent trailer, so who knows, maybe it will be okay. Dance to Death is set for release on April 6, 2017 in Russia. There is no word yet as to win it will be released here in the states.
