If you’re a horror fan and you don’t listen to podcasts you’re missing out!
Podcasts, in general, are a great way to fill your daily commute, and you can find countless programs on virtually any topic imaginable.  For the horror fan, there are tons of untapped entertainment just waiting to be downloaded!
To get you started, here’s a list of 5 of my personal favorites, in no particular order:
Stephen King Cast

The Stephen King Cast is a weekly podcast where the host reviews every single Stephen King work, both book and film adaptation in chronological order.  He provides a lot of insightful retrospection, and while I don’t agree with every one of his opinions, I do look forward to his show every week.
Lore

Lore is probably my favorite horror-related podcast.  The host, Aaron Mahnke, is a fantastic narrator (something that isn’t easily said about all podcasts…) and the soundtrack that accompanies the episodes is brilliant.
From the podcast’s own website…
Lore is an award-winning, critically-acclaimed podcast about true life scary stories. Our fears have roots. Lore exposes the darker side of history, exploring the creatures, people, and places of our wildest nightmares.
Because sometimes the truth is more frightening than fiction.
Each episode examines a new dark historical tale in a modern campfire experience. With over 6,300 5-star reviews on Apple Podcasts and an average of 6-million monthly listens, that’s clearly a good thing.
New episodes are released every two weeks, on Mondays.”
The Movie Crypt

The Movie Crypt is a weekly podcast hosted by genre directors Adam Green (Hatchet, Frozen, Digging up the Marrow) and Joe Lynch (Everly, Wrong Turn 2, Knights of Badassdom).  Adam and Joe discuss a different horror celebrity each week in the hilarious, heartbreaking and brutally honest way that only they can pull off.  Entertainment Weekly hailed this podcast as one of top 20 in 2015.
The Hysteria Continues

I’m a slasher fan and damn proud of it!  That’s why I love “The Hysteria Continues.”  Not only is it a horror podcast, it’s a horror podcast that focuses exclusively on slasher films!
The Horror! (Old Time Radio)

I dig radio dramas.  From Sherlock Holmes to original episodes of The Shadow.  When I came across this podcast, which features classic horror productions dating all the way back to the 30s, I was instantly hooked.  I’ll be honest, I usually only catch the first 10 minutes or so of each episode because I frequently put this one on as I’m going to bed.  That might explain the crazy ass dreams I have!
Bonus!–Underground Horror Radio

Here’s one more for the road!  My friends, fellow horror writer Nicole and Justin “McPatches” Jordan host an hour long horror show where they discuss a plethora of current affairs within the horror world.  Recent episodes have focused on the new Friday the 13th Game.  Justin and Nicole recently moved to the U.K., so they provide a unique insight into the British horror scene as well.  What sets their show apart is that they take music breaks throughout the show and actually play some songs by lesser known horror punk and psychobilly bands, and if you’re into that style of music let me tell you–Justin is definitely the radio personality you want to follow!
Well there you have it, 6 different horror podcasts to get you started.  All of these should be downloadable on your podcast platform of choice.  If you’re already a horror podcast fan I’d be curious to see what your favorites are.  Feel free to leave your recommendations in the social media comments.
