Maya Rudolph has now joined the cast of STXfilms’ R-rated horror feature The Happytime Murders alongside her fellow Bridesmaids alum Melissa McCarthy, Deadline reports. The human cast will be joined by puppet co-stars.
Directed by Brian Henson who will be working with Jim Henson Company’s banner Henson Alternative, the crime-comedy is “set in the underbelly of a Los Angeles where puppets and humans co-exist. Two clashing detectives, one human (McCarthy) and one puppet, are forced to work together to figure out who is brutally murdering the former cast of The Happytime Gang, a beloved classic puppet show.”
Based on a story by Todd Berger & Dee Robertson, the script was penned by Berger, Robertson, Erich and Jon Hoeber, and McCarthy. Lisa Henson, Dee Robertson, and John W. Hyde serve as executive producers. McCarthy and Falcone are producing under their banner On the Day Productions.
