Last night at the San Diego Comic-Con Joss Whedon announced that he is executive producing a reboot of his career-making series “Buffy The Vampire Slayer” with “Agents of Shield” producer and “Midnight, Texas” creator Monica Breen handling the script.
That’s not all. This time around, Buffy will be played by a yet to be named African American actress. The series will “contemporary” and will be “building on the mythology” of the original series.
The series that ran from 1996 to 2003 followed Buffy, played by Sarah Michelle Gellar, a young woman forced to fulfill her destiny of fighting vampires and demons with the help of her friends all while struggling to live the life of a normal teenage girl. The original series was based on the 1992 film by the same name, which Whedon also wrote.
