Producer James Wan has shared the first look at the upcoming “Swamp Thing” series directed by Len Wiseman (Underworld). The first image features two if the series’ stars Andy Bean and Crystal Reed on the set. The second Instagram post from Wan is a behind-the-scenes look at the swamp.
Based on the DC characters created by Len Wein and Bernie Wrightson, the series is written by “Ash vs. Evil Dead” writer Mark Verheiden and IT co-writer Gary Dauberman. Jennifer Beals, Virginia Madsen, Ian Ziering, Will Patton, Andy Bean, Crystal Reed, Kevin Durand, Henderson Wade, Jeryl Prescott, and Maria Sten star. Derek Mears plays the role of Swamp Thing and will be wearing a practical effects suit.
The series centers on “CDC researcher Abby Arcane. When she returns to her childhood home of Houma, Louisiana, in order to investigate a deadly swamp-borne virus, she develops a surprising bond with scientist Alec Holland — only to have him tragically taken from her. But as powerful forces descend on Houma, intent on exploiting the swamp’s mysterious properties for their own purposes, Abby will discover that the swamp holds mystical secrets, both horrifying and wondrous — and the potential love of her life may not be dead after all.”
“Swamp Thing” is said to be aiming for an “R” and a 2019 premiere on the DC Universe streaming service.
