Inspired by one of the scariest children’s book series of all times penned by Alvin Schwartz, Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark follows a group of teens who must solve the mystery surrounding the sudden and macabre deaths in their small town.

The first poster (above) for Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark has surfaced and it features a terrifying scarecrow that looks a little too alive if you ask me.

Written by Guillermo del Toro, Dan Hageman, and Kevin Hageman, the film stars Zoe Colletti, Michael Garza, Gabriel Rush, Austin Abrams, Dean Norris, Gil Bellows, Lorraine Toussaint, Austin Zajur, and Natalie Ganzhorn.

Del Toro produces alongside Sean Daniel, Jason F. Brown, J. Miles Dale, and Elizabeth Grave

Director André Øvredal’s Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark opens in theaters everywhere on August 9, 2019, from CBS Films and Lionsgate.
