Hilary Duff‘s latest role is a departure from normally sunny roles. In The Haunting of Sharon Tate Duff stars as Sharon Tate, an actress who met her end at the hands of the Manson Family. We get our first look at the movie and Duff in the first trailer, released today.

Based on the disturbing and heartbreaking real-life case, the film follows Tate as she dreams of ghosts haunting her home, and foresees her own brutal murder.

Written and directed by Daniel Farrands (The Amityville Murders), The Haunting of Sharon Tate also stars Jonathan Bennett (“Awkward”), Jay Sebring, Lydia Hearst (“Z Nation”), Pawel Szajda (Venom), Ryan Cargill (“Timeless”), Bella Popa (The Institute), and Tyler Johnson (Men in Black 3) with Ben Mellish (Elephants) playing the role of Charles Manson.

Tate was eight months pregnant when Manson Family members Charles “Tex” Watson, Susan Atkins, Patricia Krenwinkel and Linda Kasabian broke into her and her husband Roman Polanski’s home and brutely murdered Tate, and her friends Jay Sebring, Abigail Folger, Wojciech Frykowski, and Steven Parent. Polanski was not home at the time.

The Haunting of Sharon Tate opens in theaters on April 5, 2019.
